As promised, here’s a STRICT diet to help you reveal your ABS!

“FAB ABS” Diet :

A lot of results can happen in just 28 days of working out but if you really want to get results you need to FOCUS on your diet also.  For this contest we will have a “Daily Diet Focus” and OVERALL “5&5+” Diet goal:

OVERALL “5&5+” Diet goal:

By “5&5+” I am referring to serving guidelines- let’s put are focus on what TO Eat in a day vs. What NOT to eat:

5 proteins servings daily
AND
5 Fruits and veggies

+Plus FAT = what ever FATS come with those proteins, fruits and veggies (meat fats, dressings, oils, butter, etc…)

Don’t go overboard with “extra fats” and be WISE about your food choices- but PLEASE enjoy your food and fats in moderation. They are good for you and needed for a healthy body! (FYI- this 5&5+ fits perfectly into my hormonal timing diet recommendations for buffing …more info on that is in my books)

Like I said-“FOCUS on what we CAN EAT vs. what we can’t- FOCUS on Solutions!!!”

***NOTES ABOUT CARB INTAKE***

5 fruits/Veggies is the goal- CARBS are in many fruits and many veggies

it’s up to you on how few carbs you get in by the selections you make-

In an optimal weight loss “buffing” style diet (the 5-3-3-3)- you’d want about 3 of the choices to be CARB based (like fruit or complex carb veggies like sweet potatoes, etc..) and the other 2 from greens

BUT PLEASE let’s keep this simple! If you focus on 5 Proteins &5 fruit/veggies + the accompanying Fats you will lose weight!

NOW a bit more housekeeping, I believe in beginning with the END in mind~

At the end of the Challenge please submit a “Fab Abs”  28  challenge Final to Michelle@BuffMother.com or on your www.TeamBuffMother.com blog titled “Fab Abs Entry for __________ (your first name and last initial)”

Man Men??

Who has watched the TV Series Mad Men?  Travis and I are addicted to it and have been watching it like crazy the past couple weeks.  It’s so interesting to think back to the 1960’s and realize how life was SOOOO very different. People were so “PRESENT”…fewer distractions and life was so much more simple. But at the same time the basics of ADVERTISING is still true. Copy writing is an art and finding a way to market is still very much worth money!  The internet and smart phones has certainly changed the way people do business over the past 2 years!!

Today, I awarded 10 winners of my YouTube “Energy Angel” pre-workout supplement give away. CONGRATS to the winners!!

If you weren’t a winner, be sure to get in on this BYGO special!

Other than that, I’ve been working hard on my BuffMeals.com business. I’m getting more and more excited about the business every day! I didn’t get a chance to do my “chef” pics yet, but will very soon!  I did put up a short video about pre- and post- workout eating.  Here’s that video:

The DietBet is going well, what do ya’ll think?  Should I commit to holding another one?  I like the extra motivation, but am not sure how well others are liking it?  Anyway, I do know this time of year is one of the toughest to get people inspired towards fitness, so it’s actually going well

We all want a hot holidays right??

My #1 tip to stay on track during this time of year is to CONTINUE to workout!!

be sure to get in 4 days of working out per week!~!!!!!~!!!

Yesterday’s Nostalgic November:

Guess what? I was a semi-professional football player…And I rocked it! http://youtu.be/F6V78SYnRbs

So, yesterday I made a plea on my BuffMother facebook page for help. I want more of a good productive following there instead of perverts. My solution was to make a plea for help….

Dear followers… I need your help!!
I need those of you who are UPSTANDING and KIND to let me know what info you’d like to see more on this page. I try to provide accountability by leading by example with my own workout proof pics. I try to provide helpful tips through blogs, videos and motivational quotes. I try to help endorse worthy products and people. I am truly here to HELP OTHERS…Let me know what I can do to help you! Please? thanks!!

Success BREEDS Success!

We ran this same contest in the spring of 2013…It was a HUGE success then and I expect it again to be a success now. When something creates success, we should do do it again!! Success BREEDS Success!

With the theme of revisiting success I found this helpful post about the 6 E’s of Success~

I’m continually learning and striving to be better…I’ve also had the pleasure of being able to coach MANY other women towards their success.

Here are The 6 E’s for Success ~as I see them!

  1. Expect
  2. Educate
  3. Engage
  4. Empower
  5. Edify
  6. Encourage

Let me expand on them a bit for you~ The 6 E’s for Success

  1. Expect~ Prior to success happening in any area of our life we must set our EXPECTATIONS for success.  I expect that each and every person I encounter is on a journey toward success. They have untapped potential and they have a HUGE mission that they are destined to accomplish.  I believe in those expectations often more times than that person does. I expect excellence, I expect effort, I expect change, I expect blessing, I expect challenge (fire is needed to sharpen iron), I expect courageous behavior, I expect supernatural energy, etc… In order to succeed you must raise your EXPECTATIONS above a mediocre standard.  Shoot for the STARS! Just this week during my first deer hunting in 16 years my husband mentioned that we must go into each hunt with the “EXPECTATION” of seeing a huge buck. That mindset will carry over into our preparations, our actions during the hunt and ultimate lead to the success or failure of our experience.  EXPECT the Best~ and BELIEVE it’s possible for you to do the impossible!
  2. Educate- I believe we were made for continual learning.  Constantly striving increase your knowledge base especially about things that impact your life and your goals in life is God’s plan for us~ we have insane brains that need to be used!  I don’t expect everyone to have as much passion as I do for certain topics (fitness, diet, supplements, sports, etc&hellip, and so I take it upon myself to help EDUCATE others in an interesting yet uncomplicated manner. I am a teacher and love teaching others what I KNOW~ but you each of us need to embrace the truth that learning doesn’t happen by OSMOSIS.  It’s our responsibility to educate ourselves through reading, listening, observing, trying, doing and at times failing.  We can’t sit around and wait for someone else to do it for you…you need to be your own self advocate.  Education is not only book learning…it’s putting what you learn into action. Dig into every piece of knowledge you can about the topics that impact you and your goals. Learning takes TIME, effort and dedication; Be Patient with it, there is NO expert born overnight.  In the book “Outliers” by Malcom Gladwell, he spoke about the fact that 10,000 hours of TIME was needed for someone to become a master at something.  Don’t expect to be an expert overnight. But instead look to the help of “EXPERTS” to educate you…Strive to learn from the best!
  3. Engage- People are our greatest resource.  Engaging with others who are successful or at least passionate about similar goals is vital to success. You can learn tons about how they’ve found success, creative ideas for implementation of ideas, camaraderie (mutual trust and friendship among people who spend a lot of time together), motivation and healthy competition by ENGAGING with others.  God truly populated this earth and created us for relationship. ENGAGING with others exponentially increases synergy. Synergy is theenergy that we get from working with others towards common goals.  It rocks!  Together Everyone Accomplishes More! TEAM!
  4. Empower- This goes hand in hand with the first 3 e’s.  You will become EMPOWERED with the confidence, belief and knowledge about how to attain your goals from setting high expectations, educating yourself and by engaging with others who have accomplished similar goals.  Also, small successes lead to becoming empowered.  One good choice, One more discovery, one more confidence boost, one more day of having faith, etc…all build the power of your focus and EMPOWER you toward more success.  Other things also empower you…are your time with GOD.  God is the God of Power, believing that He’s got good blessings in store for you.  Believing in His Unconditional LOVE for you will allow you to operate in a new found confidence that is AMAZING!  Feeling secure in your mission on the earth and God’s plan for you to PROSPER is very empowering.   Empowerment also comes from ANGER…getting a “REVENGE” attitude at times causes us to really be stronger than we ever imagined.  RAW anger at your current status in life can help you feel the power you need to take action towards your goals.  Empowerment creates momentum in your life towards action.  Momentum can roll either direction– towards your goals or away…Get EMPOWERED with a momentum that brings success!!
  5. Edify-The most successful people in the world NEVER got there on their own.  Those who pretend to have attained greatness without the help of others are living a lie. To be a true success in anything you had others there to assist you.  Be sure to EDIFY their participation as you find success.  Edifying others is a hard skill to learn and often difficult because it takes effort, action and a selfless attitude.  Giving credit to others who help you, support you, enable you, encourage you, teach you and inspire you are vital to true success!  Edification of others shows that you are respectful and honorable…both qualities that attract others who want to help you become even more successful.  Edification is different than encouragement or even thankfulness.  It is an unsolicited public acknowledgement of others contributions to your success.

    Romans 14:19

    American Standard Version (ASV)

19 So then let us follow after things which make for peace, and things whereby we may edify one another.

  6. Encourage-It’s no secret that I feel the BEST way to stay motivated and excited towards your own goals is to ENCOURAGE others towards theirs.  It’s magic how much accountability encouraging others creates within yourself.  I’ve been asked countless times on how I stay motivated to stay in shape year after year. Let me tell you one thing, It’s not that I get ENCOURAGED to keep at it more than the average person.  It is instead that I GIVE OUT way more encouragement to others than the average person.  Motivation comes from deep within our soul, the power of ENCOURAGING another toward similar goals makes us want to rise higher to be a shining example for them.  We glean from their excitement and their accomplishments towards their personal success.

I know I need to be continually reminded to PRACTICE these 6 E’s for Success!

I plan to keep this list at the forefront of my mind in 2014 and I plan to ACT out EACH of the 6 E’s on toward BIG SUCCESSES!!  I pray that you do too!! We can change the world for good!!

Your friend,

Michelle

#3-FinishingThoughts:
Where are you in your journey?  I’ve made major progress over the last 10 weeks.  I lost the remainder of my baby weight and then some and I’m feeling stronger, more confident and happy to be back in my pre-pregger clothes.  My daily habits have adapted considerably and take less thought…like my water intake, protein and green focused meals, etc.

Did you reach your goals and aspirations?  Yes, my goal was to be more fit at 32 and after two babies than before.  I’m  feeling leaner than before and have been bit by the lifting bug.  I hadn’t focused on strength training since college so it’s amazing to be back at it.

Where do you see this challenge brought you?  It brought back some of my focus to me when I was accustomed to caring for everyone else first.  Now, at least I’m on the daily agenda!

Do you have any lingering concerns?  No, just hoping to recommit and focus on my next goals.

Do you feel you made an impact on your legacy during this contest?  Yes!  I’ve got my mojo back!

your WHY?  I want to show my daughter, now 7 months old, how to be a strong and confident woman and lead my family by example. I tell myself all the time…be the example and also challenge= change! J

Did you feel the support group helped you stay on track?  Yes, I enjoy the rally room but read more than blogging myself.  I’ve fallen off over the last several weeks but look forward to staying connected.  Knowing there is a network of women out there striving toward similar goals is motivating and  inspiring.  Plus, whenever I have posted, I got great feedback and positive boosts from the ladies.

What tactics did you use to stay focused and engaged for the entire 70 days?  I set my POA every Sunday and making those intentions a conscious decision helped me.  Also, making sure I kept the house stocked with my good eats was crucial.

Did you reward yourself when you hit certain goals along the way?  Yep, I finally got my hair cut since having the babe!

What other thoughts are in your head at the moment?  I loved the weekly challenges and will miss those or have to set them for myself again!  My favorite weeks were the 100 lunges a day, 10 vacuums per day and the three greens a day.

#4- Comment about your HORMONES
Did you GET to know your body? Yes and no.  I still don’t have a cycle due to nursing  and have been tracking how I feel but I think it will take a few more months for me to figure out my c-days.

Did you learn about your good c-days, your bad c-days, your weight fluctuations, etc?… Sort of.. I had much more awareness of my body and  how I was feeling.  It was the first time I was really evaluating how I felt daily and considered the impact that hormones could be playing.  Before this challenge, I never even considered hormones as a factor.  OF course with two small kids, I always assumed my physical and mental state was a reflection on how much sleep we were getting.  Now, I’m aware of our sleep but also hormones, water, nutrition, etc.
Did anything surprise you?  Yes, I was really concerned about nursing and keeping up my production while upping my workouts and changing my diet with significantly more greens.  I worried that it could make our baby, Joy, gassy or something if my milk changed.  Thankfully, It hasn’t had any negative impact on that front. Yay!

#5- Favorite Journal/Blog Posts
take a peek back at your blogs– what were some of your favorite entries from the 10 weeks?  Probably just my enthusiasm and eagerness at the beginning of the 10 weeks.

Did anyone else’s impact you along the way?  Yes, definitely.  I love that the RR is filled with women of all ages and stages of fitness.   Whether someone was prepping for a competition or just trying to lose some lbs, the group is very inviting and supportive.  They continue to inspire me to get better!

Lara Braddy – Shine in 49 2nd Place Winner

We actually had a tie for 2nd place in the Shine in 49 Contest and tomorrow will feature our other hardworking winner!  Today’s Featured 2nd Place winner is…..

Name: Lara Braddy (Nebraska Lara)

Age: 41

Number of Children: 0 human, 1 chocolate lab, Jake who I love like my kid!

Why did you enter the Shine in 49 contest by BuffMother?

I needed a positive change in my life and this contest was the jumpstart I needed. For the past 10 years I was not taking care of myself, unhappy, and very out of shape. Considering I have always taken pride in my appearance, I’m not sure how my weight and unhealthy lifestyle got this out of control.  I’ve been hanging around the BuffMother Rally Room for about a year now and have gotten to know some pretty amazing women. These are the women I look up to and want to be like.  My Dad used to tell me to hang around people you want to be like – I’m finally getting what he means.

What tactics did you use to stay focused and engaged for the entire 49 days?

Accountability & Encouraging my teammates:  I made it a habit to stay accountable by posting in the Rally Room pretty much every day. My goal was to stay positive and encourage other ladies during the contest. It’s really amazing what blogging and encouraging does for your spirits!

Tracking Eats:  I tracked everything I ate for the first half of the contest to get in the habit of portion control and sticking to healthy, unprocessed foods.  I gave up artificial and regular sugars with exception to incidentals here and there. When I felt I was getting off course a bit, I would go right back to tracking my food to get back on track. Overall though, I would say that my eating habits were pretty stellar during the contest. I had some serious willpower in the beginning, and then later on, it felt easy to resist all the junk.

Consistent Workouts: I didn’t follow the workout plans 100% but my goal was to establish consistency with my workouts at least 5 times a week. On Sunday, I would plan all my workouts for the week .They didn’t always happen because of a Birthday, or niece’s dance recital here and there but for the most part, I really did well sticking to my plan.  I did a combination of exercises including Michelle’s weekly workout plans, new cardio classes (kickboxing, Zumba, Body Burn, Yoga and some running (ugh!).

Truth Hammers:  YES YOU CAN!  JUST DO IT, STOP THINKING ABOUT IT!

Motivational Posters, Facebook, Pinterest: I made it a point to “Like” as many fitness icons, positive, healthy eating pages as possible.  This way, every time I’m on Facebook or Pinterest (which is a lot!), I get new ideas and have a constant reminder of getting healthy and fit! I think I stole most of these from Brenda, Michelle and Crystal!

How do you feel about your success?

I feel AMAZING and my Confidence is higher now than I can ever remember! I feel like I can do anything now if I set my mind to it! The fact that I stuck to this contest for 49 days was a huge triumph for me. I have struggled all my life to stay focused on goals. I have always been an all or nothing kind of a person and if it didn’t come easy, I gave up. I’m not that person anymore. Something has changed in my mind and body during this contest and I WANT to keep going.  I want to be that person who other people look at and say, “Wow, I want to be like her”. I want to be someone that my friends and family can look up to.

What obstacles do you have to overcome to attain your goals?

Having no patience. It’s easy to look at your body in the mirror and say, “It’s just not fixable!” The 49 day period gave me the patience to ultimately say, “YES IT IS!” Making slow adjustments was key for me in my short-term success and accepting that looking like I want to is not going to happen overnight but it will happen with short-term goals.

What would you like to tell the world about BuffMother?

BuffMother’s are women I look up to. They are successful, goal-driven, motivated and beautiful, both inside and out. They motivate, give advice freely, and make you believe in yourself. A year ago, I could have very well given up on myself, but now I am looking ahead in my life to see what personal challenges I can take on next. I am excited to keep going!
