Sarah Gilliam- Yellow Team

Sarah wants to start a family but fears her weight is a potential problem.  She is embarrassed to have a conversation about trying to get pregnant with her doctor.  She is concerned for her health more than she communicates.  Sarah lives in Prairie Grove with her boyfriend Jason Fisher.  She is 5’ tall and weighs 247 pounds.  A chance to change her lifestyle is an amazing opportunity, and the only thing that could make it better is if she AND her boyfriend, Jason Fisher were both chosen.

Deek Kastner- Gray Team

Derek is one half of the local 104.9 morning radio DJ team, the larger half.  Deek, his on-air name, has struggled with weight his entire life.  He has three, young children for whom he would love to set a better example.  Weighing in at 300 pounds, 5’ 11,” Deek wants to transform his life and cannot wait to begin a new style of comedy that doesn’t include “fat jokes” at his own expense.

 

He’ll be trained by myself and Jermaine Petty-

A native of Inman, S.C., Petty came to the University of Arkansas from Butler County Community College in 1999. Jermaine Petty finished his Razorback career by posting the fourth-highest tackle total by a Razorback in a season with 140 stops during the 2001 campaign.  Of the 140 tackles, 13 were for loss. During his stellar 2001 season, Petty was named the Bronko Nagurski Player of the Week twice.  Petty had one interception, a memorable 88-yard pick returned for a touchdown to seal a 42-17 win over #17 Auburn.  He also had the final tackle to seal the Hogs win in the historic seven-overtime victory at Ole Miss.  His 2001 campaign earned him first-team Southeastern Conference and All-America honors. He also won the J. Frank Broyles Award as the Most Outstanding UA Athlete for the 2001-02 school year.  Following his Razorback career, Petty played in the NFL for the Cincinnati Bengals and the Green Bay Packers.

Kate Barger- Orange Team

 

Kate weighs 345 and is 5’ 9” tall.  She lives in Springdale, Arkansas and has a seven year old son for whom she would love to set a better example.  The best result she has ever achieved was a 20 pound loss.  She is involved in her church’s drama department.  Kate struggles to fit in an airplane seat; she wants to be able to do more mission work, but her weight is an impediment.  If she were to win, she would arrange a college fund for her son with half and purchase clothing for children in Romania with whom she works.  She has a heart of gold.

Vera Burks- Green Team

Vera is a dynamic person.  She is a single mom of 4 children at home.  She works the morning shift at McDonalds.   She is 5’ 3” tall and weighs 245.  During the interview process, she was asked, “Why should we choose you?”  Vera laughed heartily and exclaimed, “Why not me!”

Tyler Nazarali- Red Team

Tyler lives in Elkins, Arkansas, served in the army having been deployed to Afghanistan.  He is 5’ 8” and weighs 255 pounds.  The 90-day challenge is the opportunity Tyler has been searching for.  His social life has suffered immensely with every pound that he has gained, to the point that he has hidden from all his army buddies.  He wants to take his life and health back.

Patrice Whitley- Purple Team

Patrice said, “I know better, I just need to do better.”  She is 5’ 3,” weighs 220 and wants to focus on her health.  She lives in Bella Vista and is working toward her PhD in adult education.  As a director at NWACC, she struggles with her weight more than she has ever admitted to her colleagues, she reveals.  Patrice is very competitive, driven, and ambitious.  Her family is supportive, but she wants to do the 90-day Challenge for herself.

On the personal front, I did a solid chest workout yesterday with boxing intervals.  HOLY COW I’m sore!!

 

AND I’m heading out for a run right now!
