SSS week 03- Mini Challenge: 100 Lunges

SSS Week #3 Mini Challenge- 100 lunges a day!!  Your mini challenge if you choose to accept it is to do 100 lunges each day this week!! That’s 100 total, so 50 each leg.

This week’s mini-challenge is one of MY FAVORITES!! To do 100 lunges a day takes mental and physical determination~ BUT I know you can do it!!!!

the way I approach the lunges are to use a VARIETY of types of lunges and to not get over zealous the first few days of the week  Most days I will opt to do just body weight lunges, but on my leg days I’ll add weight for sure.

For example:

  • On leg days- I HIT my lunges hard with WEIGHTS
Weighted walking ones- weight on back or holding DB’s
  • Barbell Lunges
  • Smith lunges
  • Super booty smith lunges
  • On non-leg days – I do body weight lunges mostly of the walking or stationary ones.

Some variety of lunges you may want to try:

Stationary Lunges
Walking Lunges
Jumping Lunges
Side Lunges (including Skater and Jumping Side)
Box Lunge with Dumbells
Box Lunge (3 variations) body weight only
Forward Lunges
Backward Lunges
BB Foward Lunge (includes Russian variation)
BuffMother! Smith Lunges (butt emphasis)
BuffMother! Smith Lunges (basic)
Starter style Walking lunges no weight

A key point to keep your lunges working your booty is to focus on using your front leg for the majority of the movement.

And the KING of lunges for the booty have been shown to be WALKING lunges :)
You will feel them TRUST ME!!Laughing

To get more emphasis on your butt rather than your quad, remember to use your front leg for the motion and also leaning forward (chest to knee) adds extra booty emphasis.

have fun doing your 100 a day!!
Rock that Booty!!!

Well, I did legs today~ boy I love a good leg workout….My favorite workouts used to be chest, but these last few months~ LEGS totally rule my world.

I love working legs (and BOOTY) because of the RESULTS!! The positive changes I’ve seen in my legs over the last 2 months are UNREAL!!! The time while I was training for my 800m race, I couldn’t lift much with my legs for about 2 months and it ended up showing…don’t get me wrong, my legs looked great, worked great and felt strong…but they were different than they were prior to slacking off from my workouts. Now from LIFTING HEAVY and close to twice every week, I have less cellulite, less fat, more shape to my booty, etc….now than 2 months ago and I am SO EXITED!!!!
:yay:

I only had an hour so I did the MOST important moves~
5 min warm up elliptical
Squats
45×10 plie

Kneeling leg curl

270x10x2
Calves betweens sets :)

Smith Lunges
70x10x4 on step
Leg ups on R-chair
15×2
Booty back extensions
20×2

Time was UP!!

I love weights!

Today was a TIME WARP day, lol! I slept in this morning and ever since have been on the GO! GO! GO!! Still feeling pretty good for cycle day 23…still holding steady during my boosting at 132.2 even after a “FAILED” day of eating yesterday. Went out for lunch with hubby, had nachos at the game and then an ice cream cone afterwards?? WHAT was that about?? Anyhow today was a new day and I’ve done better!

Today’s SEXY POST….

I’m going to push into some ENERGIZERS this weekend. Maybe even get DH to go on a DATE with me?  He’s all about being on the farm now that hunting season is on so that may be harder than you’d think, lol!
I just completed my run of intervals that I did AFTER my chest/tricep lifting workout.  I didn’t get in my fasted bike this am, due to sleeping in, but I will tomorrow. Every day I don’t do it, I now regret it.  Maybe it’s becoming a habit?
Have I ever told you that I love weights? LOL!
So yesterday I used my new FitMark the Shield lunchbox www.fitmark.com– here’s a video about it and a pic of me after packing a lunch for my son.

Every Day in May~ Day 1

Hey ya !!

May is upon us and we have over 700 people participating!! WOWIE!!

Today’s suggested workout is a Purple band UPPER BODY WORKOUT: http://youtu.be/gTj6ONDnqKM

I am going to do the Band workout for my warm up then hit the weights for a bit more focus on my BACK and CHEST…then go for a hills run.

PLUS , I will-try to take a starting pic!! YOU SHOULD TOO!buffmother, hormonal timing, fitness ,diet, abs, m - 186526530054

It’s Thankful Thursday today!! Be sure to think about something you are thankful for today. And/Or be extra thankful. The art of APPRECIATION is so powerful.  Reach out to and thank someone, you will be amazed at how much it impacts you in the positive!!

Our diet challenge for today is to eat some fish! Each day of the week we have a set diet challenge that is meant to get you thinking about your food intake and help you get out of the “grind” of eating the same things all the time.  Variety in food intake is vital for nutritional and mental reasons.  Try some fish today!  Tuna, Salmon and Talapia are some of the fish I eat.

This week’s diet focus is to Drink More Water!

With the weather warming up realize you may need to up your water intake from where it has been the past few months.  A good goal intake is at least half of your body weight in ounces daily, but often times up to 1 gallon a day is recommended for those with higher protein intake and for those who consistently workout.  Water is vital for flushing out toxins in your body and the transport of nutrients to your cells.  Key things to keep in mind are that when you initially up your water intake you may retain water for a day or two, but then your body will regulate itself and you’ll find that the consistent higher intake of water will help you NOT retain water.  Beware that too much water can be dangerous…if you find that you are cramping or constantly thirsty despite drinking tons of water or light headed, you may be consuming too much water and flushing minerals and electrolytes from your body.  If that’s the case lower your intake and consider supplementing with a good healthy sodium.

Our fitness focus for the week is building Endurance.

Endurance is your aerobic fitness. It’s what allows you to Go, Go, Go!! This week take some time to strive to be MORE ACTIVE! Here’s some ideas on how to increase your ENDURANCE:

  • Walk more- take your dog or kids for a walk, us a pedometer and measure your steps, strive for 10,000/day
  • Stand more- refuse to sit unless 100% necessary, try a standing work station
  • Do more cleaning- spring cleaning time of the year! organize, give away, sell unused items
  • Get out in nature- hike or bike on trials near your home, do some landscaping, outdoor planting, etc…
  • Join a running club or sign up for race, it will give you the motivation to hit the pavement.  BTW- running outside is so much more effective than on a treadmill, try it!!
  • Buy a heart rate monitor and USE IT!! Get in your aerobic zone and strive to stay there for 20, 30, 40, 50 or even 60 mins!! You’ll be amazed at how quickly your heart will get stronger and how fast your endurance improves!

That’s all for now!! Have fun with this challenge~ We can do it!!

-Michelle

“Get Buff”- Day 11

“Get Buff”- Day 11

We made it through the first 10 days~ 1/3 of the contest~ and guess what??? NOW it’s time repeat the first ten days again!!!  For Day 11 we have the same workout as day 1 and same diet focus, day 12 the same as day 2 and so on…. The program is designed this way for many reasons:

  • THIS will give you GOALS!
  • you can compete with others performance on the same workouts (many of you posted GREAT ones in your blogs)
  • the first 10 days set a standard- now you can compete with yourself
  • you NOW know what each workout feels like, what weights challenged you, what exercises were your favorites, etc…
  • You can also challenge yourself to do better on each daily diet focus!! And try some of the strategies utilized by other contest members etc…
  • Gives you an opportunity to “get it right this time”

***Please note*** I will be adding to the number of sprints each week and giving you “optional EXTRAS” for your workouts.

30 day “Get Buff”- Day 1

30 day “Get Buff”- Day 1

First off THANKS so much for joining in on our contest!! more info is located about the contest in yesterday’s blog– check it out: GET BUFF contest!!

The workout program** I’ve designed for our contest is very different from what I normally use in my own fitness program and in training the majority of my clients. This program is a  Full Body training routine! Every workout program has it’s advantages and I believe NOW is a great time for a FULL BODY plan! It’ll provide us some fun, FAST results!

For those of you new to fitness- a “FULL BODY” workout routine simply means that each time you lift weights you address your full body- so you will do exercises for your upper body and lower body all in the same workout.

Personally,  I am at a good point with my fitness MOJO, but I am greedy– I’d like some MORE MOJO!!

Currently, I’ve been struggling to get in my gym workouts with the chaos of the kids being activities and my preference to “play”- I would rather go hiking, spend time on my tractor, play tennis or go run sprints, than workout in the gym.  In order to find some MOJO for me and, YOU, my fellow TEAMMATES,   I put together a routine that will “shake up” our lifting routine, help us get back into lifting again, give us new insights, allow for muscle gain, and get us some FAST weight loss results!
** You are FREE to follow whatever workout routine you desire during the 30 days, this workout plan is for those who want to try it and those who don’t already have a plan to follow**

“GET BUFF” CONTEST Diet :

A lot of results can happen in just 30 days of working out but if you really want to get results you need to FOCUS on your diet also.  For this contest we will have a “Daily Diet Focus” and OVERALL “5&5+” Diet goal:

OVERALL “5&5+” Diet goal:

By “5&5+” I am referring to serving guidelines- let’s put are focus on what TO Eat in a day vs. What NOT to eat:

5 proteins servings daily
AND
5 Fruits and veggies

+Plus FAT = what ever FATS come with those proteins, fruits and veggies (meat fats, dressings, oils, butter, etc…)

Don’t go overboard with “extra fats” and be WISE about your food choices- but PLEASE enjoy your food and fats in moderation. They are good for you and needed for a healthy body! (FYI- this 5&5+ fits perfectly into my hormonal timing diet recommendations for buffing …more info on that is in my books)

Like I said-“FOCUS on what we CAN EAT vs. what we can’t- FOCUS on Solutions!!!”

***NOTES ABOUT CARB INTAKE***

5 fruits/Veggies is the goal- CARBS are in many fruits and many veggies

it’s up to you on how few carbs you get in by the selections you make-

In an optimal weight loss “buffing” style diet (the 5-3-3-3)- you’d want about 3 of the choices to be CARB based (like fruit or complex carb veggies like sweet potatoes, etc..) and the other 2 from greens

BUT PLEASE let’s keep this simple! If you focus on 5 Proteins &5 fruit/veggies + the accompanying Fats you will lose weight!

Today’s Diet Focus:

Drink more WATER! Strive for at least 1 gallon a day~ You need water to keep your body hydrated, kidneys working properly, flush the toxins and fat out of your system.  Also be aware that you need more water to digest protein than any other type of food…so as you up your protein intake you need to up your water intake.

REVISIT

HI Ya!!

Day 14 of our 21 day contest!

Is your Hot Hiney “HURT?”~ Day #14~

REVISIT your GOALs~ http://www.teambuffmother.com/topic/-goal-buttday-1hh-

Here are mine again:

My butt habit to incorporate~ Lift heavier! I’ve been in “recovery mode” from a neck injury for the past couple months…now that I am healthy again it’s time to challenge myself on the weights.  Lower reps and higher weights~ Heavy lifting provides amazing muscle growth!

My butt habit to eliminate~ Sitting! get off my HINEY! I’ll be using my standing work station

Yesterday was a good day outside.

I got in a Track workout:

Run 2 laps for warm up Run 200m x2 (time: ?, 31) Run 50 acceleration- had Tia video this…looked slow and need to get on my toes! Run 300m- 46sec…during this one my left hip flexor was bothering me

Run 300m- 49sec- ran slower on purpose due to hip

Cut workout short, hip flexor was too bothersome. I’m wondering if it was a cramp?  I’ll be nice to it for a couple days and see.

Then I mowed, brush hogged and weed whipped for several hours.

I also ACCIDENTALLY took some advil I had in my hand to give DH. I went into autopilot mode and swallowed them down with my water– silly! lol!

Anyhow, today I plan to get in a good workout and some sun! Right now I’m watching the UFC event from last night– LOVE MMA!!

Let’s have an AWESOME final Week of our BOOTY contest!!

-Michelle

off my HINEY

Yesterday was cycle day 23…enough said, lol!  No seriously it wasn’t bad at all…I actually had a good day! Today in contrast has already been a hormonal struggle~ I must remember “It’s just my HORMONES!”…Chill out Michelle!

Today is Day #2 of our HH Contest and in the forum post I talk more specifically about ways to really CHANGE your butt: BIG Butt Work

My butt goal~ build up/keep my butt muscles throughout my track training; My visual is of my own butt Hormonal Timing downladed e book 8-5-09.pdf_page_128_of_130

Yesterday, I was really  sore and tired from Sunday’s track workout. But I did manage to do a short back workout

Bent over DB Lat rows- 2 sets Inverted Pull ups- 4 sets Ab Wheel- 1 set Lateral and front raises- 10#plates 1 set Bicep Curls- 2 sets Pull ups- one set of 8

Today my plan is to lift Chest/triceps/Abs and run hill intervals. I also need to take my butt starting pictures!

Off to get off my HINEY! I’ll be using my standing work station a lot over the next 3 weeks!

Have a happy day~

Michelle

Formulating a plan

HELLO!!

I’m working on formulating a plan for my next couple months of workouts…I’ll be keeping a journal of my track/running training within the forum more specifically if you are interested in that as a resource.  I’d rather keep this venture on the MORE PRIVATE side of things and www.teambuffmother.com is a great place to do just that!

I’ve spent the morning in “research” and have really enjoyed the exercise science stuff– I am a nerd!! It’s amazing how we forget so much of the details over time. I forget that it’s been 20 years since I learned much of my “SPORTS SCIENCE” info in college!   I’ll share some of the info I’m re-learning in nice little article summaries for you!

Ideas for the upcoming week):

Running days- I’ll do some other stuff on these days– some plyo type drills, body-weight moves and extra NON RUNNING cardio to work on VO2 max

M- run longer repeats (300’s, 400’s, 600’s)- may or may not be on track W- run shorter repeats (100’s, 200’s)- May or may not be on track Sa- Track workout day– this day for sure we’ll be working at the track.

Lifting Days T- Legs Th- Upper body + non-running intervals

Friday off Sunday off

As you can see I am limiting my running to just 3 days– It’s a must for me too keep my running volume as low as possible due to injury prevention.  My recovery is important too– I can’t train as hard on the weights when I am training intensely in running or I just can’t recover.  That’s much to do with AGE and just how my body has always been I may go CRAZY only lifting 2 days a week, so I may have to up the frequency on that end…I’ll adjust as needed.

Currently I feel like I have a good aerobic base– the best I’ve had in AGES!  I have been running rather consistently over the past year.  I’d really LOVE to get a VO2 max test completed.  If I can’t find a lab here that does it, I’ll do an “at home version” myself.

My overall assessment of where I am at with my 800m fitness is that I am SLOW right now– I’ve not done really any speed-work for at least 6 months.   That’s my major weakness at this point.  Speed will be my main focus over the next month.

The Key to your Motivation is to Encourage others!

Terrible Tally!

I am TOTALLY failing at my attempt to TALLY my workouts and other stuff for the year, lol!! I’m glad I only committed to test trying to do it this January.  It’s just not my personality to be able to tally, lol!! I am too much of a “fly by the seat of my pants” type girl.  ALTHOUGH I do love journaling and keeping track of things in my notebook by using lists etc… I just can be on regime to do certain things every day like tally, lol!

This weekend was a good 3 days off official workouts and I am OK with it because I was really active and I knew my hormones were high…Saturday I was in a terrible mood 🙁 cycle day 23 this month.  And my cycle ended up only being 25 days this month.  Not sure I like that???  Anyhow, It’s cycle day 1 today and I’m gonna hit the weights for a chest workout and a run.

I’ve been thinking more about us doing a contest here in the rally room to prepare for our “VEGAS” trip– I think it’ll be similar to the Six 2 Sexy contest we did a couple years back~ Check it out:

Congrats again to Kim for her win in the 28 days to Christmas contest~ her prize is a BuffMother STARTER PACK~ I know she’ll put it to work!!

Kim our “28 Days of Chirstmas Winner!!”

28 Day Christmas Challenge Contest WINNER!!
HI!! You are the WINNER!!
Congrats and thanks so much for your SUPER participation via my BuffMotherPage on facebook!! You were a stand out during the entire contest and I love your willingness to share your passion for fitness with the world!!
Thanks and Congrats~
Love,
Michelle Berger
Kimberly Of NY
I am 41 years old
I have 2 children (13 and 11)
  1. How do I feel the 28 days of Christmas Challenge helped me during the crazy holiday season?
The contest helped through a lot of stress this time of year. Gave me something to focus on instead of worrying about things I wasn’t in control of right now. I am someone who loves     to give gifts. Deciding, finding, and giving a gift is one of my favorite things to do. We had to cut back a lot this year, so I was unable to ‘give’ as much as I would have liked. The     contest helped me deal with the situation and focus on things that matter more than monetary things. The kids stepped up and helped as well. A great holiday!
  1. Summarize my performance in this contest…
I realized early on during this contest that even though I was working out most days I wasn’t pushing myself as hard as I could. Reading other Buffmother posts helped me see that.     So I began looking for and planning tougher workouts. Now I am trying new gadgets and heavier weights. Trying hard to think outside the box and give it all I got. Thanks,     Buffmothers!
  1. Are you happy with your results?
I was very consistent and on track with my workouts throughout the challenge. Had a strong start with my eats, but had trouble Christmas week. Getting back on     track as type this. This is my 2nd contest and I always feel that my results could have been better. I put a ton of effort into the contest, but there is always something I could have     done differently or better. Always a work in progress. So overall I am happy with the things I have learned along the way, but I can do better each day.
  1. Encouraged by? Denyse W. and Suzi V.. I love our dynamics as a group. We work well together for accountability and encouragement. Inspired by? Robin W.. I love her enthusiasm, dedication and sense of humor. She has been a great addition to the group. I look forward to seeing how far she can go.
  1. I shared my pics most days on the Team Buffmother and the Buffmother sites. Lots of fun!
  1. In closing: As usual, I thoroughly enjoyed the contest. It is an amazing thing to have so many wonderful women to discuss common interests with and help those women when they need a word of encouragement. I enjoyed the workout proof pics. A great add on to this contest. Gave us a chance to show a different side to ourselves, open up and be creative. The occasional questions you passed along to us was helpful to me as well. They made me pause and think. I started a separate journal to keep those answers to look over when I need to regroup or refocus. I’ve made so many great friends these past 6 months. Can’t thank you enough, Michelle Berger, for changing my life. I have my goals set for the new year and a renewed focus on what I want from my life. Thank you!

Here are several of Kim’s “workoutproof” pictures from the contest~

Forgot to post day 1 here, too. Stats done this morning. Eating lots of protein and veggies today. Looking forward to fruit as my treat later. Waiting for DH to come home for some P90X plyo. Wonder if he will come home. Lol! See ya’ll later:)
