My hips/back seem to be the best they have been in days.

My POA for today– RUN!  need to hit the track, but not sure I can– our vehicles are a mess right now.  Not sure I’ll have a way to get there I’ll probably just hit my trail for the first time since my ankle sprain on st. patty’s day.

My focus for the remainder of our 40 days is simple– keep on working out like crazy! Daily and with more volume and more EXTRAS!  Diet wise– NO CARBS! It’s go time– I can’t have any or I won’t reach my goal. Ketogenisis in a week is the goal!

Fab Abs Day 0

Today is Day 0 in our “Fab Abs” challenge! During the Challenge EVERY DAY has a FAB ABS post, please follow along and comment on the posts for accountability.

This post contains a DIET for you…so that you can have OVERALL SUCCESS in addition to our ABS focus!

  • A quick link to each FAB AB challenge post is found on this page www.BuffMother.com/FabAbs   — take 1 day at a time please– read, do and comment daily PLUS, Please feel free to share the post.
  • Strive to apply the info to your day immediately! Try the exercises, think about your midsection, be focused on causing change, JUST Do it!!
  • This challenge encourages you to submit before and after pictures at the END of the challenge.  The photos should capture the area of focus– from your mid-chest to just below hips is about perfect.  A FRONT and SIDE photo are required you can choose any attire you’d like but strive to wear something that could show progress (for example; a bikini, sports bra and shorts, tight fitting tshirt/tank, etc…).  STARTING and ENDING shots should be in the same clothes, taken in the same location if possible and in similar lighting and angles.
  • this is a “Challenge” so there are no official Prizes or Winners however, anyone who has great success may be asked to be featured as a success story….those individuals will get prizes (a shirt? or set of books?)

As promised, here’s a STRICT diet to help you reveal your ABS!

“FAB ABS” Diet :

A lot of results can happen in just 28 days of working out but if you really want to get results you need to FOCUS on your diet also.  For this contest we will have a “Daily Diet Focus” and OVERALL “5&5+” Diet goal:

OVERALL “5&5+” Diet goal:

By “5&5+” I am referring to serving guidelines- let’s put are focus on what TO Eat in a day vs. What NOT to eat:

5 proteins servings daily
AND
5 Fruits and veggies

+Plus FAT = what ever FATS come with those proteins, fruits and veggies (meat fats, dressings, oils, butter, etc…)

Don’t go overboard with “extra fats” and be WISE about your food choices- but PLEASE enjoy your food and fats in moderation. They are good for you and needed for a healthy body! (FYI- this 5&5+ fits perfectly into my hormonal timing diet recommendations for buffing …more info on that is in my books)

Like I said-“FOCUS on what we CAN EAT vs. what we can’t- FOCUS on Solutions!!!”

***NOTES ABOUT CARB INTAKE***

5 fruits/Veggies is the goal- CARBS are in many fruits and many veggies

it’s up to you on how few carbs you get in by the selections you make-

In an optimal weight loss “buffing” style diet (the 5-3-3-3)- you’d want about 3 of the choices to be CARB based (like fruit or complex carb veggies like sweet potatoes, etc..) and the other 2 from greens

BUT PLEASE let’s keep this simple! If you focus on 5 Proteins &5 fruit/veggies + the accompanying Fats you will lose weight!

NOW a bit more housekeeping, I believe in beginning with the END in mind~

in other news, I’m still sick today, but on the upswing for sure!  …took the day off of most movement, so no workout– lol! But I did manage to shower and make a quick trip to pick up the dry cleaning.

Photoshoot Set

Did I tell you??? I have a photo-shoot set for Thursday the 29th= 9 days away and I am rusty, lol! It’s been a while since I’ve done a shoot and PREPARATION is needed.  It’s a lot like getting ready for a figure contest, one should practice posing and give a bit of extra attention to the details.  My main objective during the shoot is to get some updated photos for my portfolio and to knock the rust off so that I can be ready when duty calls

That said my POA for the remainder of the week is as follows:

T- bike 20 mins fasted; lift lower body +abs/booty focus

W- run hills; back, shoulders, biceps + abs

Th- bike 20 mins fasted; lift chest/triceps/abs and boxing intervals

F- run road intervals + sprints

Sa- LEGS

Sun- fasted treadmill run; back/shoulders/biceps

Monday- chest/triceps/abs; Happy Memorial Day!!

NOW on to my recap for day 1.  I was in a hormone trance all day yesterday and the day before, lol! I feel like I am snapping out of it today on cycle day 26, yay!!

I spent almost the whole day “nesting”…I cleaned up and reorganized my “office” area.  Moving my computer to the opposite side of the room so that I can video tape on a clean wall.  I still have a bunch of papers to get through, but it’s looking a million times better already!

I ate eggs for breakfast, then tuna/avacado/egg salad with nuts and celery for a late lunch and finally started my workout at about 6pm.

I did the upper body purple band workout for a nice warm up– the push ups were tough! And then I added in some heavier bench press 3 sets of 6-8 reps at 105#. It was a big time win for me and my shoulder!! I didn’t have much pain and I think it can handle a “real” upper body workout finally! YAY!! I also did some rows, abs and bicep curls.

Next I hit the trail for longer hills.  4 2min long hills with a jog back to the start between.  They were tough, but I felt really good!!

I was also very thankful yesterday–for my family, my home, for prayer, for the TV show VIKINGS and for ENVY. YES, Envy– good envy is very helpful toward us accomplishing goals in life: READ THIS ARTICLE

My workout plan for today is to do the boosting lower body purple band workout for my warm up, then SQUAT, Do DEADs and LUNGES plus knee extensions and extra ab/booty work!  I will also be hiking around on our land. Travis and I are harvesting some black walnut wood

Workout ideas are based upon my workout DVD system that uses bands and my butt or abs series of workouts.  Each of the SlimChick workouts are only 11 minutes in duration, so you have no excuses.  I am placing the workouts on YOU TUBE for FREE during the month of May only.  Normally you’d need to purchase them through BuffMother.com.

FYI- each SlimChick workout uses a band. Pink is a more stretchy, lower resistance band.  Purple is a less stretchy, thicker, higher resistant band. You can purchase the bands at most sporting goods stores or if you purchase my DVD’s the bands are included.

HEY!! it’s day two~ Just wanted to remind you to be sure to take your starting STATS and pictures if you have not already.

Remember there are….

4 Simple steps to enter and WIN:

1. Take your starting stats (pictures optional)

2. Participate at least 3 times during the duration of the Challenge with a blog entry, workout proof picture, a “SHARE” or even a measly “like”, lol!

3. After the 30 days, Take your ending stats

4. Submit your entry to michelle@buffmother.com by November 5th- Entry= starting stats, final stats, a written paragraph sharing your thought about the contest, and at least photo of yourself.

Today’s Diet Focus:

Up your veggie intake- especially GREEN VEGGIES

Ideas:

The way I get 3 in a day is to start my day with a GREEN, focus on eating greens for my “snacks” and having greens with dinner.

Greens are so good for your digestion, your body’s acidic balance, for nutrition, for energy, etc….
My favorite Greens lately are:
Cucumbers,
Peppers,
Green Beans,
Radishes,
Asparagus,
Brussels Sprouts

Others I eat quite often include:
Stir fry veggies,
Spinach,
Romaine Lettuce,
Green and Red Cabbage
and Spaghetti Squash

Get after those greens~

They are SO good for you and REALLY help lean you up!!!

Kathleen!! I am so proud of you~ Your new “Happy Hour” is truly transforming you–in mind, body, and spirit!! It’s so cool that one of our origianl TEAM BuffMother members, Jennifer of Austria, helped encourage you along in your journey!!  I love how your tummy shrunk over the 70 days and how you are pressing forward to the goal of washboard abs by age 50. I have a feeling you may have them by 49!! Keep rockin’ it!!

Why did you enter the “SuperSTAR Success” contest by BuffMother?  I joined the BuffMother team SuperSTAR Success contest because I needed the motivation to tone up and shed fat.  Taking my “before” photo was a mind opening experience.  I had no idea I had let myself get so overweight and out of shape until I saw that photo and I was immediately motivated!

What tactics did you use to stay focused and engaged for the entire 70 days?  I have always eaten clean and I exercise regularly.  However, I just started a new job, in a new city surrounded by new people and I fell prey to their ways.  Instead of working out at the end of the day, I headed to “happy hour” with the gang.  It was the useless calories of alcohol that really did me in.  So guess what I did?  I created my own “happy hour”!  That is what I labeled my workouts and it really worked for me and kept me focused.  Just as I reasoned that I earned a happy hour cocktail in the past, I flipped that around in my brain and told myself I “earned” my happy hour workout.  And it made me MUCH happier to workout than to sit around and drink after work.  That is for sure!

I also had support from my best friend Jennifer Franklin, who is a Buffmother contest winner herself.  I emailed her every day (she lives in Austria, I live in the US) what I did for my workouts and how I was feeling.  On the days when I was down and feeling like I was not gaining anything from all the effort, she put me straight and got me back on track.   She likened the experience to removing paper towels from a roll of paper towels.  And that the first couple towels you peel off, dont show, the roll looks big but as you keep peeling off the towels the effect is greater and you can see the difference.  Believe it or not, that visual really helped me to keep pushing forward.

I also made a point of letting everyone at work know that I was in this contest so that they did not tempt me or invite me to join them for beer or offer me pizza or other fattening goodies they tend to have delivered into the office.

How do you feel about your success?   I am glad I stuck with the program all the way – even when I was traveling extensively.  I sought out the gym and did not head to the bar with the rest of the crew on my countless road trips.  And guess who was always happy and peppy the next day?  You guessed right – the “new happy hour girl”!!

I see this as the first step towards my fitness goals.  I still have a long way to go in my quest for washboard abs by my 50th birthday but this contest put me on the right path.  I am now looking forward to new goals to shoot for.  By making it to the end of this contest I have proven that I have the stamina and motivation to attain my ultimate goal of fitness.
What obstacles did you have to overcome in order to attain your goals?  I had to change my entire mindset towards how I relaxed and decompressed after a long day at work.  It used to be that I worked hard so I figured I could play hard.  Now, when I finish a long day of work, I know the best thing I can do for myself is to hit that gym and start my happy hour workout.  By the time I am finished, I have forgotten all about what happened at work and instead am focused on how strong I now am and how many reps, sets and lbs I have lifted.  Much better!!

What would you like to tell the world about BuffMother ?  BuffMother is an amazing community of women helping women.  Seeing pictures of you, Michelle, so fit and rock hard is a great motivator for me.  No longer can a woman blame her rolly polly belly on the fact she had children.  My goodness!  You had four and are fit beyond compare so there really is no excuse not to shine.

The way the team at BuffMother cheers one another on and supports each other is priceless.  Especially, if you are in a situation like I am wherein I  don’t have anyone around me that works out or cares about fitness.  It gave me a virtual group of friends I could hear from and read about and relate to.

Oh!  And the mini-challenges are fantastic!  What a great way to add a layer of fitness on top of the regular plan.  I have made a point of adding 100 reps of a certain exercise each week to my normal fitness routine.  It adds an element of fun to the schedule.
