Brenda’s Bio~

Hi,  I am Brenda Herrod the proud mom of 2 young adults in college and wife to Mike! I’m also a women’s health nurse practitioner in Omaha and love to promote health and fitness. Love their products and promoting the best supps out there! 🙂 I am very proud to be a Buffmother, as well! Michelle Berger’s Hormonal Timing program is how I lost my 30 lbs in 2008 and changed my life forever! I have competed in 6 natural figure competitions and received my Pro Card in the NGA in 2014 at the Titan Classic in Urbandale, Iowa. I do personal training part time and love helping others enjoy fitness and weight training. Prior to moving to Omaha, I had been teaching nursing at a community college in Norfolk for 10 years.

Please enjoy my “BuffMother Interview” with Brenda Herrod of Omaha, Nebraska~

Hi Brenda,

First off Thanks SO MUCH for doing this and always being such a GREAT leader in BuffMother!

Q:
You have a masters in nursing, are a Nurse Practitioner, a certified personal trainer, and just recently became a precision nutrition coach…Wow, that’s a great list! What has driven you to consistently expand your health education? and what do you want to learn next??
A:
Thank you Michelle!  I absolutely love learning!  I love helping others and staying abreast of the most current research about health, fitness and nutrition.  I’m very big on prevention and ways  we can stay healthy and live life to the fullest.  I love to inspire others to be their best.  The next thing I really want to do will be determined by my next job and the direction I go.  If I end up working in oncology, I want to get certified in chemotherapy and certifications as an oncology nurse, for instance.
Q:
What was the turning point in your life that catapulted you toward your physical transformation?
A:
The turning point was turning 40.   Also having lost my parents and my brother so young, whom all had cancer.  I was super busy, teaching full time and in graduate school, but wanted to set a good example for my kids and be healthy.  I have been trying to create a healthy environment for my family in hopes to decrease environmental risks of cancer. Just because it’s in our family, doesn’t always mean it’s completely genetic.  Besides that, it just feels good to be healthy, confident and feel strong!  I wish I would have found this lifestyle and Buffmother earlier in my life.  The exercise definitely is my “antidepressant pill” and helps me feel so much better every day!
Q:
You have 2 kids in College and have been working through the new season of being an “empty nester”. What advice do you have for others entering that stage of life?
A:
Enjoy every moment with your kids and family.  Don’t wish the time away or hope it goes faster.  You only have those kids for a short time, but do everything you can to make a difference in their lives and always believe in them.  If you don’t believe in them, no one will and they won’t believe in themselves.  When you are enter empty nesting, make sure you enjoy hobbies and reconnect with old friends and family you may have lost touch with.  You will suddenly have more time on your hands and need to make time for yourself, finally if you haven’t been doing so!
Q:
Since this is a “BuffMother” interview, I have to ask…What is your favorite memory with our Team BuffMother?  and do you think you’ll be a BuffMother even when you are 90?
A:
That is a very hard question!  I have SO many, seriously!  Meeting Michelle and getting to be good friends with her, and seeing her so many times has been absolutely amazing to me.  Also what comes to mind is going to California to do the Buffmother Infomercial and feeling like a STAR with our SuperStar treatment!   Exploring California with Kathy, Deb and Lisa, and meeting other Buffmothers for the first time, like Julie, Dayle, Tracy, Tonya, KQ, and Teresa who I only knew from the Rally Room!    I loved when we hadSIX Buffmothers competing in the Bluffs Classic, Lisa, Kathy, Sherry, Theresa, and most of all, our sweet Darcie who came all the way from Florida! Having Michelle, Julie and Liz come from so far away to be our support!  haha!  As exhausted as I was from the late tanning and lack of sleep for that super day long figure competition, it was a blast!  Dancing in the nightclub by SanFrancisco and our Buffmother photoshoot of that trip too.  There are many other memories!   Seriously, being a Buffmother has been a blessing in my life with the ladies I have met and friendships made. I will definitely be a Buffmother at 90!  😀
Q:
I’m curious, what is your favorite workout at the moment?
A:
Definitely weight workouts for legs and booty! I train them more than anything else, as that is my area I need to build and have big goals for. It’s fun to see progress after years  of hard work.
Q:
As for diet, what is your mainstay healthy GO TO meal?
A:
I love broccoli, avocado and lately I have been including salmon burgers or mahi mahi burgers in my diet a lot.  I make sure the fish is wild caught and not farmed though.  I feel there are great benefits for my skin, as well as inner health and muscle building benefits!
Q:
Do you have any website or social media links you’d like to share?
I’d like to also include info on your personal training, etc..
A: I still love the Buffmother website and the Rally Room.  I have a professional page on Facebook, “Brenda Herrod, Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner”  also am on Bodyspace.com as bherrod.  I am @brendaleeherrod on Instagram.  I do personal training a bit too,  using Buffmother training and Hormonal Timing Book.  Right now I am teaching cycling classes at Prairie LIfe Fitness, and once a week HIIT Class on the weekend.

Jenni Stueve is a BuffMother her interview

Jenni Stueve is a BuffMother her interview

I have had the please of getting to know this young positive BuffMother Jenni over the past several months. She is as beautiful inside as on the outside. I know you will enjoy this fun uplifting interview with her! By the way, she and I are from the same hometown, tiny Fergus Falls, MN!!

Hi, My name is Jenni Stueve!  I am 33 years old and together my husband and I have 5 children, 3 of which I gave birth to. We live in Fergus Falls MN where I am a stay at home mom, and have been for 5 years since our last son was born. I enjoy camping, traveling, and playing with my boys in the outdoors. For myself I enjoy reading and creating. Creating ANYTHING! From relationships, to decor, to food, to art. I enjoy working out and sharing fitness goals with my husband because we’ve been each others inspiration since we first met. I truly believe in living a life full of abundance…and I’m learning to embrace all the challenges to achieve it. I feel so grateful to be a part of all the other women’s journeys as they too…work hard for their dreams.

Please enjoy my interview with Jenni~

Q: In your bio, you mentioned you have 5 children, you must have a lot of laundry, lol! What is your advice to other mothers who struggle to find time to workout?

A: YES! We do! However, 2 of our 5 have moved out and on and have graduated college (Karissa 24, Daniel 22) so we only do their laundry when they come home to visit, haha.   Right now we have 3 boys at home:  Jaden 11, Gavin 10, and Chasen 5.  And after being a stay at home mom for all these years, I have learned a thing or two about sacrifice and communication.  And for some reason I always felt that as a mother, you should sacrifice for your children. Well, as they have grown up and we have grown together…I now realize that sacrifice has taken on a whole new meaning in our lives.

From being around other likeminded women, I have learned quite a lot from them about parenting.  And what I have found most valuable, is the health and happiness for myself. And to NOT feel guilty about “making the time” to invest in ME! Especially when it comes to fitness. My boys have now learned that mom likes to work out almost every day, and she will finish it fully. I let them know how important it is to wait patiently because in order to do anything let alone finish it – you have to make it a priority.  So learning to prepare ahead of time for the kids has been the best trick to getting my workouts in. They are always fed and have an activity set up before I start working out.  “Mom guilt” was very hard for me to get over but if I wanted to move forward with any kind of routine, I knew I had to communicate to them that my work out time is like their “game or play time”.  Once I could relate the value and importance to them to something that they love, we had understanding.  And now for the last 5 years they have seen me consistently put fitness as a priority in my life. And I am proud of the sacrifices I made, but even more proud of the ones my children have made with me.

PLEASE WATCH THIS SHORT VIDEO WITH TIPS FROM JENNI ON HOW TO WORKOUT WITH YOUNG KIDS!!

Q: What are a couple of favorite food creations?

A: Oh this is a REALY FUN question! I absolutely LOVE to create and try new recipes.  In fact….I don’t make a lot of things twice!!!  I’ve actually been known to turn most recipes into healthy ones by cutting out the sugars, carbs, and bad fats, and sneaking veggies and fruits into almost everything.  Especially when I have super picky eaters under the roof! There is a great book for moms out there who are big on nutrition, and it’s by Jessica Seinfeld (yep, Jerry’s wife) called “Deceptively Delicious”. My mother gave it to me when my boys were very young and wouldn’t eat a vegetable to save my soul.  Her methods were absolutely genius!! I now puree sweet potato and red peppers to add to my sloppy joes. I puree cauliflower and add to mashed potatoes and banana bread. I puree spinach and add it into my brownies or chocolate cake.  But my all-time personal favorite dish is a good salmon fillet sautéed in coconut oil with just some sea salt, fresh lemon, and pepper.  Simple to me is more when it comes to flavor. And give me any veggie that’s lurking around and I will steam it, bake it, or sauté it up and turn it into a side dish!!

Q: Until I started this interview with you, I never knew we were from the same home town.  I’m curious, how did you find Team BuffMother?

A: Well, that just proves again how small our world really can seem! It is rather interesting because I love social media and what it can connect you to…as in “like attracts like” (I’m a HUGE believer in the law of attraction.) And lately, I’ve been having that longing for something new and fitness oriented because I have to admit that when you are so consistent and persistent …. You can run into boring.
Well, one day I saw that I was added to the BuffMother group! Yep…I was seriously just added! And I of course was super curious and excited.  So I watched as these everyday mothers and women who had REAL struggles, REAL temptations, REAL obstacles, and REAL wins meet their goals for fitness and they were LOVING it!  I loved the encouragement and cheers from the other members, but mostly I loved the positivity. I witnessed team work without any physical contact. And I absolutely love that. Because we all know …. That Teamwork Makes the Dream Work.

Q: I know you are very active in your Nerium business, how long have you been with them and what is your favorite aspect of network marketing?

A: It has been almost 3 years now! I’ll never EVER forget the day a bottle of that night cream got into my hands and changed my life.  And at the time I was looking for a good all natural product for my sun damage and larger pores. This is going to sound so crazy, but again I was longing to have a vehicle to help me fulfill my purpose in life. I knew deep down that I was more than just a mom and wife. Don’t get me wrong, those are to this day my most favorite roles to fulfill. But I needed a culture, something bigger than myself, something that I could accomplish great things with! (I bet you can tell by now that I am a little bit of a dreamer, lol.)  And the PRODUCTS!! Oh my heavens!!! I’ve seriously never seen results like this…EVER! That was my biggest clue….all natural antiaging for the face, body, and now mind? All 4 products patented and exclusive global rights to market? Yep…could not pass it up!

And it’s such a toss-up on my favorite aspect of Network marketing… because I actually have two. Firstly – the Networking! I absolutely love the opportunity to connect with people, and how through one person you can build a relationship with so many others. And then that grows into team work. What a beautiful thing when a group of likeminded people all connect to the same rhythm and move in the same direction. But it’s the friendships and journeys that I will never forget…ever.

And secondly, is the personal development! Now THIS has been quite the eye opener for myself! I’m literally addicted to reading personal development books every day. There’s nothing better than to invest in your mind…because it’s the control center for everything else. “What consumes your mind, controls your life.” So I say pump it full of some good stuff!

Q: You mention your husband as your fitness inspiration. Do you two workout together? If so, how do you make that work and if not, why not?

A: Yes, Dan has been my ultimate fitness inspiration since the first day I saw him with his shirt off, hehe. When we started dating, I knew that working out was his main priority. He not only loves to lift weights, but he is a runner, and biker.  I am more into circuit training and am looking forward to getting into more running. I’ve always admired how no matter what, he would make time for his work out.  He was dedicated and it showed, and he still is today.  In fact, the gym is where we would meet for dates! Seriously! I even remember pushing my double jogging stroller across town and he would run and meet me halfway at a park so the little ones could play. And now we more so have to switch off here and there so that one can stay home with kids if need be, BUT…we go together whenever we can. We do workout at home together a lot, and we respect each other’s time and help make it possible for the other to enjoy a completed one. That is truly the secret sauce for us! It’s the respect. We have learned that our family has its own rhythm, so we will make the time for what makes us happy!

Kathy Prohoroff is a BuffMother ~ An Interview

Kathy Prohoroff is a BuffMother who inspires many individuals daily through her social media and YouTube channel. Her energy seems endless, but has had to fight hard to regain that stamina.  Kathy shares a bit of her struggle with Adrenal Fatigue

Kathy’s Story:
My name is Kathy Prohoroff and I am a mother of 3 teens and have been married to my hubby for 21 years. I fell into the fitness world as a young adult who was suffering from overeating, depression, panic disorder, stress issues – to name a few. Needless to say, I was kind of a wreck and my hormones were out of whack. I lost and gained 30 or more pounds at a time on a regular basis. My mom encouraged me to join her at the local gym and take the group exercise classes she attended.

I fast fell in love with the fitness world as it gave me a sense of control and empowerment for the first time ever. I later went on to become a personal trainer, exercise instructor and also became a weight loss leader at a nearby center. In dealing with my emotional eating and learning more about the imbalances in my hormones, I was able to help more women that I worked with. This allowed me to dive deeper into these areas and find a way to be happier, healthier and more in control of my results long term. I find that many of us just need to understand that it’s not our willpower that sabotage our results; but our hormones, our habits and our past behaviors.

I finally lost 70 lbs after having my 3rd child and felt so confident in my success in weight, body image and overall fitness that at the age of 40, I competed in my first fitness NPC competition!!  Along with taking home 2nd and 3rd place trophies, I also took home a year of suffering from adrenal fatigue symptoms. I learned first hand that there has to be a happy medium in being healthy and it’s not in overdoing it in overeating as well as under-eating and over-training. Being happy, healthy and fit requires balance and the understanding of our bodies and how they were made to work and succeed long term.
Please enjoy my BuffMother Interview with Kathy Prohoroff….

Q:
You mentioned you are a certified personal trainer, what advice do you have for others who may be in that profession or looking to become a trainer themselves?
A:
Get certified in with a reputable and highly known company. I always recommend NASM as it’s highly regarded and teaches so much about sports training methods. This business takes a lot of blood, sweat and tears but if you have the passion to help others change their lives and you’re highly motivated and working on your own goals, it will bless your life in a wonderful way. Give the best training and meal planning to your clients and don’t treat them as another “number”. They matter and if you let them know how much you care about them, they will trust you, likely stay with you and refer others your way.
Q:
What were some of the symptoms you had from Adrenal Fatigue?  and How did you overcome them?
A:
Dealing with adrenal fatigue, I suffered severe cravings in my eating due to not having had eaten the right amount of calories and nutrients in my competition training phase. I found myself not caring what I ate (very odd for me after over 22 years of good eating habits locked it), not wanting to workout, not having any energy and wanting to eat and sleep all day. My weight crept up, I was bloated and felt unhealthy and extremely unhappy. I wasn’t sure what was wrong with me but I knew that something was amiss and it was due to the over-training and strict meal plans from the previous 6 months. My moods were completely unbalanced and my anxiety was at an all time high. In my efforts to “heal” my body and bring it back to “square one” again, I did a 21 day RESET program. I wasn’t sure what to expect but the claims were that it would restore my body from the “cellular” level. Once I completed the program (and exercise during this reset is prohibited due to the changes within the body) I was more energized and felt like my self again. I followed a daily meal plan that was strictly outlined in the program, followed the resting periods, and took the supplements included in the program. I was amazed at how much better I felt and how my body began to respond to changes made.
Q:
You have 3 teens, are they into fitness as well? and what do they think of your Youtube channel?
A:
My family is extremely close and my teens and hubby have always had a say and opinion in what I do. They have grown up seeing me training clients, working out at home and in the gym, talking incessantly about good eating habits and stocking the home with 80% healthy foods. (I allow some fun treats because deprivation is another problem in and of itself). My daughter and sons are now all working on their own programs through our Beachbody library yet, I had never made working out a requirement. They each came to me, one at a time, and asked me, “what fitness plan should I start with, Mom?” There’s nothing more powerful than leading by example and this is something I share with all of my clients who have children. I started my YouTube channel to connect with clients and to bring motivation and support to the online forum. My kids helped me film my workouts and are amazed at how many people have viewed some of the videos they helped create! My daughter has recently brought to my attention that we need to “bring up the content” again in my channel! She has nominated herself my videographer and promoter!
Here’s a short video from Kathy with More about this…

Q:
Since this is a “BuffMother” interview, I have to ask…How did you find our Team BuffMother?  and What makes you a BuffMother?
A:
I found Buffmother while searching online for hormone related issues in fitness inspired females. I resonated so much with Michelle’s energy, kindness and spirit. There is a need for more information in this area for women; and just knowing that there was a community of women on this journey made it a great discovery. I purchased a variety of the programs and e-books that Michelle offered and dove into the monthly cycle training plans and workouts. I followed her workouts and videos. I also joined her online forum and Rally Room. Everyone I’ve met through this community is like minded and I cannot be more blessed to see everyone cheering each other on! Once my mom caught wind of me following this plan, she asked for all the info as she’s been dealing with hormones and issues without proper help for many years. Her words were, “FINALLY!! Someone is actually sharing this information!!” 🙂
Q:
I noticed you are a BeachBody coach. How long have you been working with them?  Are you finding success with the business model?
A:
I’ve been a Beachbody coach for 6 years now. At the start, I was just dabbling in it for the nutritional products in helping my current clients. I was never a fan of the products sold at the gyms and in the local GNC type shops. I am a strong advocate for clean eating and taking the best care of our bodies today…not “later” when dealing with health or medical issues. Most products sold for “fitness” benefits are full with artificial sweeteners, preservatives and “fillers” that make the supplements seem “healthy enough” while being able to maintain a “cheaper” price tag to entice customer purchase. The products that Beachbody promotes are the best I’ve ever found, and I’ve researched everything I could find. After about 2 1/2 years of coaching “part time”, I realized my income potential was greater with this opportunity than simply spending hours working with clients one on one. I now shifted to full time Beachbody coach and online training. My family is happier, I have more patience and enjoyment of life and my pay has increased consistently over the years. I still enjoy the one on one sessions at times, but after 22 years of working harder; I’m now blessed to be able to work smarter and fit my family’s needs first.
Q:
How do you feel about the flood of muliti-level marketing “Coaches” that have no experience or education in exercise science and nutrition having such influence over clients?
A:
While I understand that some fitness professionals, who first look at this network marketing business as one which is allowing “non” professional folks to work with customers and clients on fitness and weight loss goals; we don’t pretend to be professionals. (unless we already are!) Coaching is about showing people that we are a normal, everyday person who is on a journey to become fitter, healthier and better over time.
Every coach I work with on my team who is NOT a trainer or fitness professional, knows that they are a coach strictly in helping others choose a plan to follow for their specific goals and needs; as well as help motivate them and encourage them along the way. I’m not sure how familiar you are with the Weight Watchers model, (I lost my initial weight as a teenager with them and later became a “leader”) but it’s actually quite similar. In order to be hired as a Weight Watchers leader or receptionist; you must have reached your own minimum success in the process. It’s powerful to new members coming in the doors to realize that everyone they are working with, has their own success story. The same is true for our Coaching network. We all have a story and we all share our stories in order to help those in our lives to feel confident in creating similar results in their lives. The fitness professionals are part of the workout programs and the meal plans and guidelines are all written out. We encourage challengers to make sure they have their doctor’s permission to start a program as needed and the results are absolutely phenomenal and long term.
