Every Day in May~ Day 1

Hey ya !!

I am going to do the Band workout for my warm up then hit the weights for a bit more focus on my BACK and CHEST…then go for a hills run.

It’s Thankful Thursday today!! Be sure to think about something you are thankful for today. And/Or be extra thankful. The art of APPRECIATION is so powerful.  Reach out to and thank someone, you will be amazed at how much it impacts you in the positive!!

 

Our diet challenge for today is to eat some fish! Each day of the week we have a set diet challenge that is meant to get you thinking about your food intake and help you get out of the “grind” of eating the same things all the time.  Variety in food intake is vital for nutritional and mental reasons.  Try some fish today!  Tuna, Salmon and Talapia are some of the fish I eat.

 

This week’s diet focus is to Drink More Water!

With the weather warming up realize you may need to up your water intake from where it has been the past few months.  A good goal intake is at least half of your body weight in ounces daily, but often times up to 1 gallon a day is recommended for those with higher protein intake and for those who consistently workout.  Water is vital for flushing out toxins in your body and the transport of nutrients to your cells.  Key things to keep in mind are that when you initially up your water intake you may retain water for a day or two, but then your body will regulate itself and you’ll find that the consistent higher intake of water will help you NOT retain water.  Beware that too much water can be dangerous…if you find that you are cramping or constantly thirsty despite drinking tons of water or light headed, you may be consuming too much water and flushing minerals and electrolytes from your body.  If that’s the case lower your intake and consider supplementing with a good healthy sodium.

 

Our fitness focus for the week is building Endurance.

Endurance is your aerobic fitness. It’s what allows you to Go, Go, Go!! This week take some time to strive to be MORE ACTIVE! Here’s some ideas on how to increase your ENDURANCE:

 

  • Walk more- take your dog or kids for a walk, us a pedometer and measure your steps, strive for 10,000/day
  • Stand more- refuse to sit unless 100% necessary, try a standing work station
  • Do more cleaning- spring cleaning time of the year! organize, give away, sell unused items
  • Get out in nature- hike or bike on trials near your home, do some landscaping, outdoor planting, etc…
  • Join a running club or sign up for race, it will give you the motivation to hit the pavement.  BTW- running outside is so much more effective than on a treadmill, try it!!
  • Buy a heart rate monitor and USE IT!! Get in your aerobic zone and strive to stay there for 20, 30, 40, 50 or even 60 mins!! You’ll be amazed at how quickly your heart will get stronger and how fast your endurance improves!

HI my LOVES!!

Happy Valentine’s Day!!

 

I have some free time this morning to get a few things done prior to heading to my next Movie SHOOT.  Tonight I get to kill someone and get shot! Fun stuff!!

 

Yesterday, I completed a recent “early morning” workout record for myself– started running at 7:15 am!! that’s very EARLY for me!!!!

Got my run done EARLY today- finished at 7:40am… After a 10min warm up ran 1 mile at 8mph with 3%grade– pushed into pain! #nopainnogain#workoutproof

 

 

Then after my run I had a weird thing happen.  I was getting my eggs cooked and rinsing off something in the sink and these words came to me: “And I will give you the Desires of your heart!”  It instantly made me cry with thankfulness~ God has GIVEN me the desires of my heart! He is amazing!!

I am so blessed!!

 

Here’s a pic I sent prior to heading out for the day– I knew we were shooting a Sleepy Middle of the night scene, so…limited my make up as not too look too made up…

Here’s a pic after we shot my first ever movie scene!! I will never forget it– thanks to everyone who made it happen! Dreams do come true — with Victoria Fox, Kim Pease and Jim Long.

please keep me in your prayers as the shooting continues over the next couple weeks.  LOTS of Brains cells will be required for me to remember all my lines and stay sharp!

Interview for Strength Advocate

1.  You’ve been an inspiration to thousands of women with your practical approach to fitness after motherhood.  What inspired you to speak out and share your wisdom with others?

 

I was inspired because of my own results! I attacked and regained my body after 4 kids using a system I call Hormonal Timing. My personal success captured in pictures was PROOF that women can get their bodies back after babies, even twins and even after c-sections!! That’s how www.BuffMother.com was born~ soon after that we became a TEAM of women and now almost 10 years later I am very honored to say we’ve been able to impact countless women all over the world.

My mission was and is to simply help women BELIEVE again!

 

 

 

2.  The “about” page on your website starts off with the statement, “I am no different than you…” this is a powerful statement.   What are some of the biggest misconceptions that deter women from starting a fitness program?

 

Yep it’s so true, I am not some “made up” fitness personality living a posh life in Hollywood. I’m a real mother with tons of responsibilities and obstacles that could easily keep me from being fit and healthy. 

 

For many of us when we see someone we admire~  it’s easier to believe that  “it’s easy for her”, “she was born that way” or …”she doesn’t have anything to overcome compared to me” rather than take an honest evaluation of situation, step out into the unknown and take action towards the person we want to become. IN the case of fitness and diet, It’s never easy to be fit and healthy. No matter what you have to make many tough choices daily. 

 

 

 

3.  What is a motivational method you recommend for those having trouble sticking to an exercise program?

 

That’s a tough question, because there is no ONE SIZE fits all answer– I do believe the #1 way to stay motivated  is to involve yourself in others success. “The Key to your Motivation is to encourage OTHERS!”  Just try it- give a little of your energy to someone else and you will be amazed at the motivation you get in return!!

 

Secondly, You must BELIEVE! do things that build your belief in what you are doing.  Research, Read books, Read Success Stories, journal/blog, take pictures, measure your success, etc…All towards building your belief!! Once you truly belief that every little choice you make has an impact on yourself and others FOREVER, your motivation to succeed with skyrocket!  Step up! Take a hold of your life!! YOU have the power to create a legacy of HEALTH!

 

Thirdly, you shouldn’t expect to enjoy it! Eating right and exercising is like taking your medicine– or like brushing your teeth. A part of life that you must do habitually. Personally, I rarely enjoy workouts. I enjoy the RESULTS from my workouts!!  Envisioning the good results keeps me motivated to workout and eat nutritiously!
A Final key to staying motivated is to realize CONSISTENCY is the key.

I’ve seen it so many times, people QUIT because of their ALL OR NOTHING mentality. Unfortunately, many fitness professionals paint an skewed idea of how to be healthy and fit. They present themselves as PERFECT and never failing– which is a big lie. Everyone fails at times and no one eats 100% clean, healthy and perfect all the time. I’ve never claimed to be faultless, I only claim to try to make wiser choices more consistently;  continually striving to improve myself and my health. Know that it’s a journey!! Learning the lifestyle of healthier eating takes years of effort and determination!!

 

 

4.  In the past, you’ve mentioned that the mainstream approach to fitness and diet were unsuccessful for you?  Why do you think that is the case?

 

Mainstream diets and exercise programs are marketing schemes. They are founded on misconceptions, full of empty promises, hype and blurry results.  My experience in failing was NOT unusual. Most people fail, heck the mainstream programs prey on that reality!

 

They fail because most of the programs address only one or 2 facets of the hundreds of items needed for fitness success.  The programs are not addressing the whole person: mind, body and spirit.

 

 

 

5.  You talk a lot about hormonal timing.  Can you tell a little about this secret system?

It’s how I’ve trained for the past  almost 11 years and how I’ve trained my clients since that time. Hormones need to be taken into consideration into your fitness approach.  Hormones are the great regulators of our body systems, if the are out of balance in any way eating properly and working out becomes very difficult.  Once you truly understand the power of hormones and how to work with them you’ll find the success you are craving.

 

Unfortunately, millions of women are overweight simply due to their HORMONES!!!

  • We get uncontrollable cravings for junk food.
  • We gain weight without explanation.
  • We suddenly have no desire to exercise.
  • The negative effects caused by our hormones are endless.

Hormonal Timing is a strategy designed for women only using their natural hormones. My goal was to create the fasted possible method for women to achieve radical physical transformation. I believed the key was to capitalize on the positive effects of our hormonal fluctuations while also diminishing the negative effects. I used myself as my first test patient. I had just given birth to twins by C-section which were my 3rd and 4th babies in less than 4 years. My body was stretched out, fat, depleted in every way and just plain disgusting. At the time, I just wanted to see radical transformation in my body. I had no idea that I was on the verge of discovering something that would change the lives of thousands of women. To make a long story short, my body transformed radically by using what I now call Hormonal Timing.

 

I began designing custom Hormonal Timing programs for women online. I charged $1200.00 for an 8 week program. It wasn’t long before I was sold out! I simply didn’t have time to take on any more clients. The results my clients were experiencing was amazing and I soon realized that I had to develop a way to share Hormonal Timing with every woman in the world. That’s why I wrote my book “Hormonal Timing”.  It will provide you with all the knowledge and tools you need to begin living The Hormonal Timing Lifestyle immediately.

 

6.  You have a huge following, you’ve written books, you have an infomercial and you’ve produced a series of workouts on DVD.  What’s next for BuffMother?

 

I’m always busy doing THINGS…Business wise, we are in the midst of a 10 week transformation contest within our private women’s only site www.TeamBuffMother.com.  Then this spring,  I will be hosing an online “class” for those ladies who would like to become “BuffMother Trainers”. At the same time we are working hard toward a new EXCITING product launch for 2015!!

 

In my “hobby” life, I operate best when I have a scarey goal in front of me. The next UPCOMING adventure is a movie role. I play Diedra, a lady who is charming, sexy, wild and a bit crazy.  I’ve been rehearsing for that role my whole life!! 7.  Finally, what do you say to all of those that look to you for inspiration?

 

I am honored to be able to and I expect to continue to be a leader by example forever! I am “BuffMother” and will remain that way because I take that responsibility to heart.  I really believe that inspiration is all around. The realization that our actions can greatly impact others is eye-opening.  You too, are being “watched” …take that to heart. Prove to the on-lookers that YES you will WIN the battle!  Show them that You will accomplish your goal!!

Shine in 49 Runner Up- Kim Hurt

Why did you enter the “Shine in 49” contest by BuffMother? To get fit and lose weight!
What tactics did you use to stay focused and engaged for the entire 49 days?  The numbers on the scale helped.  The more the numbers went down, the more motivated I was to eat healthy.  I also noticed how much better I felt, the better I ate.   But the biggest change seemed to be in my strength and heart rate.  My recovery was a lot shorter and I felt a lot more tone.   
How do you feel about your success?  While I was wishing for more weight loss, I absolutely loved getting toned up and feeling great. 
What obstacles did you have to overcome in order to attain your goals?  A lot of family get togethers and with 3 kids, trying to find the time to workout.  
What would you like to tell the world about BuffMother ?  It is a great overall fitness routine.

How can it be the Last day??

I am in shock that it’s already the last day of JUNE??  It has flown by so fast!! I’ve had a very interesting month~ Lot’s of GREAT amazing things, plus some not so super things.  I’m not going to spend 1 second thinking about anything negative, but instead give all my energy to the positive.  PLUS I’m getting internally fired up for the next half of the year– JULY is going to be the start of an amazing 6 months!!

It’s a good time for me to look at my 2012 New Year’s resoultions again– I wonder how I am doing?

This year I have 3 resolutions:

1- to KISS MORE!!
2- to take more PHOTOS!
3- to BLOG DAILY!

  1. Kissing more sounds simple, yet when you have 5 loved ones in your family (+ a puppy)  who all need KISSES, it can be a bit demanding.  I am up for the challenge~ it may get sloppy & personal but I am armed with  my puckered lips ready to rock my kisser in 2012!!
  2. More photos is a must…my kids are beautiful and I barely took any good photos of them the past couple years! It’s a shame, but no more– I am going to snap away. I also have beautiful landscapes, animal and plant life all around~ no better way to capture it than with a click of the camera!
  3. Blogging daily is something I’ve slacked at the year….I love blogging– not just using it as a journal, but using it as a place to explore my deep inner thoughts, ideas, strategies, etc…the more I blog the better I feel about everything.  I don’t expect EVERY DAY that my blog will rock, but I do expect inspiration and creativity to flow from time to time!

Don’t be surprised if in 2012 share photos of me kissing others in my blog!!

Tomorrow is my 37th Birthday!! YAY!!
I’ve been thinking a lot about the next year of my life the past week.  I have some things I want to accomplish during my 37th year:

Spirit:

  • Keep a thankful heart
  • Pressing toward sharing God’s love in all I do- SHINE for HIM!!
  • Find a good local church- get whole famiy involved

Family:

  • Help each of my kids with one of their passions-
    • Gunner’s football preparation
    • Gracie’s Gutiar/Voice lessons
    • Tia Sprinting at the TRACK and camping
    • Layla horse riding lessons
  • Keep being a good loving sweet supportive wife to my best friend of 20 years, Travis
  • Get our 20th anniversary trip to GERMANY planned!! (Aug 2013)

Home:

  • Finish off the remodeling that we need done
  • Get workout area “POSH”
  • Get a pool installed by next summer
  • keep working on our land- clearing it, making it beautiful!!
  • Maybe get some animals??

Business:

  • RE-publish a second edition of my book
  • Do more e-book promotion
  • Run another transformation contest this fall and next spring
  • Plan at least 1 more gathering in the next year (AUSTIN spring/summer 2013)
  • Work towards a “secret BIG project” completion for the NEW YEAR!!

Fitness:

  • Keep learning- I’d like to take some hands on classes/certifications
  • BE very consistent in my workouts and do them at a set time/place- follow my POA!
  • Stay healthy! No injuries or time off due to illness
  • Possibly do some tennis lessons and enter a tournament next spring??

Diet:

  • I’d like to  get my whole family eating Gluten-free…I pretty much have all the symptoms of needing to do this for myself (plus DH and 2 of my kids seem to have very similar issues with Gluten problems)
  • Get tested for allergies??
  • Work on my healthy cooking– I go in streaks with this– been BAD the past couple years!

 

Beauty:

  • I’d like to to consistently wear more “professional” looking clothes– when I go to appointements or meetings I’ll plan to look like a business woman– not a teen, lol!
  • I’ll continue to take care of my skin, teeth, hair and nails– always looking “put together” (this is harder than you think for me!)
  • I’d also like to learn more about essential oils, home facial/hair treaments
  • Help my DD’s be consistently “groomed”– time to teach them how to shave, use curling iron and maybe even some make up lessons!

 

LOT’s to think about and keep infront of me at all times so I stay focused!!

As for my workouts this week, I did 4 days in a row: M- upper body/intervals, T- Legs, W- Run Hills + 10 mins bike, Th- upper body/intervals— AND I was so sore and exhausted yesterday that I had to change my plans to add a day off!!  I’m still sore today, but I’ll get in a workout regardless.  I am going to make this body SUBMIT!

Catch up~ Shine in 49: Day 28

Hi Ya!! So…I just wanted to catch you up a bit on some to the fun I’ve been having.

On Friday I got a facial, FINALLY!  Thank you miss Jennifer Yount 🙂 …. I am so MEAN to my skin it’s insane– so I needed to give it some LOVE! Here’s a pic I took afterward 🙂

 

Then, that night I got all dolled up with “Ferrah” hair to pick up my man from the airport. He’d been working hard all week in Florida– Here’s a pic I took then:

 

Then yesterday I was super stoked to brush hog– Yep I am a farmer at heart!!

FINISH IT!! ~S6day33

Do you FINISH?  Would you consider yourself a finisher?  I would have to say that I AM~ most of the time… When I don’t finish something it’s because my heart is not in the project or I let my negative thoughts take over.  NOT FINISHING can become a bad habit…just like anything else.  I challenge you to challenge yourself and focus on FINISHING tasks and projects that you embark upon!  It will stretch you, make you grow, give you a sense of accomplishment,  and make you PROUD!!  You CAN do it!  Now is the time to FINISH!

I have Finishing on my mind because we are at the Finish of our 6 week Sizzlin’ in 6 contest….Just Just 10 Days left!!!….a little over a week left to get results that will show in my pictures and in my stats!  These next few days are also the FINISH of my Boosting Phase, YAY!! I plan to start buffing a bit early this month, my hormones are going to cooperate weather they want to or not!! I will finish the contest strong!!

Some of the things I am going to be staunch about during the finish of this contest are:

  • FASTED cardio!  i have not done much of this the past 2 years….just because I am in  a nice “comfort zone” with my body.  Well This buffing phase I don’t care about being comfortable…I want to see some fat loss!
  • Low-Low Carb diet…I am going to shoot for no more than 2 servings of Carbs a day.  The only way I am able to accomplish this is to go in with a NO CARB mindset.  I do that because carbs always “slip” in~ they are SNEAKY!
  • Smaller portion sizes- I typically have portions that are 25-30grams in size.  I’ll be shooting for 20g portions these next 2 weeks.
  • EXTRA Cardio- 20 mins EXTRA- 3 times a week and ONE LONG cardio day- 45-60 min session.

All of that combined with what i normally do WILL eliminate some fat off this body and I’ll be more ripped than I’ve been in quite a while!! I am ready to FINISH STRONG!!

Here are my workouts from the past 2 days:

Wed- Legs most exercises 3×10

and some abs- not many…I was a bit tired this day~ cycle day 3 does that to me, plus I think I had some sinus issues.

Thurs-upper body- most exercises 3×10
warm up tanning- the gym got new a tanning bed!!
lat pulls- 1 set knee ups on roman chair between sets
pull ups
incline HS press- knee ups on bench between – 1 set
HS high lat pull- Standing knee ups- 2 sets
Bench
2 sets tricep bench dips- with plank finish

came home then ran hard intervals outside- 17mins total, but I PUSHED hard~ I am finally in good engouh shape to challenge my lungs…I am getting in shape man!!!  YAY!!

then I did 2 sets of perfect push ups, 2 sets of sit ups, some leg raises and stretching

Water is a little low…I think I’ll make myself some tea 🙂

Warm up- 6 minutes of cardio- any type… ease into it, prepare your body and mind for an effective workout.

Upper Body #2, ABS and Intervals
1- Lat Pull Downs– 3 sets of 10 (3×10)
…first set medium wt. warm up, second set heavier, heavier if needed ;
last set 10th rep should be close to failure

Between sets- ABS: Roman Chair Knee UPS- 2×20; Rest 1min

Soo…. For example:

ABS: Vacuums- 2 x 5: 10 second vacuums (10-20 sec rest between reps)

Then…
INTERVALS

“BuffMotherobics!”- any mode you like (running, swimming, biking, elliptical, jumprope, rowing, etc…)

Min 1-3: Warm up

Well Where do I begin… I had the pleasure of meeting KQ  over 5 years ago via www.buffmother.com.  She’s been a member of  TEAM BuffMother~ almost since we began!
KQ is one wonderful, motivated, fun, excitable lady!!   We got to “meet” in person a little over a year ago and I knew then that this lady was truly destined for big BEAUTIFUL things in her future-and FYI- she is Strikingly Beautiful herself!!  Over the years, KQ has been on a journey…one filled with a few potholes here and there, but the one constant in her life has been her commitment to become her BEST!  and to surround herself with the BEST!   KQ is truly an “All-Star”.  Please follow her as she preps for the next stop in her journey.  the Fitness America Pageant in SC on Aug 14th!! She will be rocking the stage for SURE!  I love this lady!

Why did you enter the SSS contest by BuffMother?
I entered b/c I am a BUFFMOTHER at heart and I wanted to use this competition to help me get back on track and continue working towards my goal which is competing in my first competition along with moving towards my goal of doing fitness modeling. This challenge has really helped me get myself refocused and I was able to start a Bootcamp at home and really get my personal training going.

What tactics did you use to stay focused and engaged for the entire 70 days?
I decided I was a winner and I was tired of complaining about my weight gain and I knew I had the ability to lose the weight and get myself jump started again. I have just really been taking this time as a reevaluation period and it has been WELL WORTH IT. I also used my boyfriend as a motivation. He believes in me completely and has stayed on me hardcore when it came to some of my bad habits like my snacking. I also used his desire to get back in shape to help me to b/c I have to keep myself on track if I’m going to help him get on track. I also refocused on hormonal timing again and getting paying close attention to my cycle and weight gain. How do you feel about your success? I am truly excited and overjoyed about my success. At one point I thought I had really fallen off the wagon and I was so hard on myself about getting back on but this challenged allowed me to focus and obtain my goals.


What obstacles did you have to overcome in order to attain your goals?

During the 70 days I experienced some great highs and some terrible lows by having crazy weight gains every now and then. I struggled with my issues that I call “drive-by snacking”. It’s not that I eat bad I tend to pop in the kitchen and grab some nuts, a piece of this, a piece of that and that all adds up unfortunately. I have also been traveling a lot during these last 70days and I have really worked hard at staying focused and on track by running and doing my workouts at the house, hotel or any gym I could find.
What would you like to tell the world about BuffMother ?
You already know I am a BUFFMOTHER thru and thru and I will preach it from the roof top. As I stated earlier I have really refocused myself on hormonal timing again. So much so that I know what CD day it is just by how I feel without even looking at the calendar. That is one of the best parts about this challenge which is KNOWING YOURSELF mentally & physically!!! That has to be one of the best parts of Buffmother besides creating the bonds with the other ladies who are going thru the same things as you are. Another great thing is the challenges b/c it forces you to have a starting point and to track your numbers that way you are able to see your success first hand b/c sometimes without the numbers and pictures we would drive ourselves nuts thinking we’re not getting anywhere and that’s exactly what I had been doing in the past. Most of all I will tell the world that I LOVE BUFFMOTHER AND I LOVE MICHELLE for bringing it to us!!

Thoughts…

I’ve been thinking a lot of thoughts lately…do I sound like POOH bear?

Anyhoo…Thoughts about my mission, my current existance, my goals, my frustrations, etc…  Overall this October has been filled with un-rest…stress…contemplation…and SICKNESSES!  ICKY!  I know the mental really affects my physical. I also know that the definition of INSANITY is to continue to do the same thing over and over expecting different results.  Thus…my blog about CHANGE on Tuesday.

I am sick of the unrest and sick of the lack of peace…So where do I start?  I KNOW where to start…with GOD!  He is the start of it all and my #1 priority, my first love.  I’ve been neglecting HIM for too long, taking HIM for granted and separated from HIM due to my own stupidity. 

The past 3 days I’ve been pouring into who I love the most~ God, Travis and my family and guess what…I feel better both emotionally and physically.  I’ve listened to several amazing messages from pastors I HIGHLY respect to fill my heart and mind with wonderful thoughts about my Jesus, my KING, my Father, my Love!  And that love has spilled over to my DH…I had a GREAT date with Travis yesterday~ The first in a long time!   Because God is LOVE, I need HIM and HIS love in order to have love to give to others.  He holds a stockpile of Love and gives it to us when we give HIM LOVE.  It’s so wonderful!!  God is GOOD!!

I plan to keep going after God; Keeping HIM my #1 priority in life above ALL else…and YES even above my husband and above my children.  HE has to be FIRST!  Becuase I know from horrible past experiences that when HE is not #1, everything else falls apart!!  I want HIS love so I can GIVE MORE LOVE and have more passion for the all those looking for true LOVE!  I want to really make an impact on this world and there is no way I can do that if I don’t have massive amounts of LOVE!
