SSS 2012 Finalist – Jenny B of NE

I am so VERY proud of Jenny for “finding herself” again through BuffMother.  She over came her Mommy guilt and overcame her fear of the “meat heads” in the weight room.  I’m very impressed with how 7 pounds of weight loss transformed her!! Way to go Jenny~ I expect your fitness future to bring many more successes!!

Name: Jenny B of NE
Number of children: 1

Why did you enter the “SuperSTAR Success” contest by BuffMother?  I wanted to challenge myself and learn more healthy ways to attain my fitness goals. I also wanted the extra guidance that I got from the Youtube videos, emails, journal, Rally Room and fellow BuffMothers.

What tactics did you use to stay focused and engaged for the entire 70 days?  I really utilized the Rally Room for support, I also used my husband because he also helped keep me accountable, watching the YouTube videos, journaling as well as continuing to reference “Hormonal Timing” book. All of these together helped me keep my focus.

How do you feel about your success?  I am very happy with my results and excited to see how I will look and feel months from now after continuing to live a healthy lifestyle.

What obstacles did you have to overcome in order to attain your goals?  Some of the obstacles I had to overcome were to fit working out into my already busy schedule, having “mommy guilt” after leaving my daughter to go to the gym to workout, eating healthy and prepping meals. It took me some time to figure out the meal prepping thing.  I also had to overcome the “haters” and being criticized for what I was trying to accomplish.  Another big one was using the weight room at the gym and not feeling intimidated by the equipment as well as the “meat heads”.

What would you like to tell the world about BuffMother ?  I was able to find myself again through BuffMother.  The knowledge I gained about eating, hormones, and workouts will stay with me for years.  I met some great friends through the Rally Room, which I found to be a very safe place for me to express my feelings and share my successes as well as struggles. I wish every woman wanting to learn and make changes could be a part of the BuffMother community.

Can I have your permission to post your entry and photos online? Yes

40 days to FIT!! Day 22~ Ready "To Monday"!

Is it just me or are Mondays a bit intimidating to you too?  BUT today I am ready “To Monday”!! cheerleaders

To Monday means so many things:

  • time to get a vision for the week ahead and build up excitement for what I can accomplish on the week ahead!!
  • feeling a little twinge of fear/intimidation about all the “work’ I hope to accomplish in the day ahead
  • time to a my clean up my diet and get in a killer first workout of the week
  • time to interact with clients, friends and business partners online, on the phone and in person
  • PEACE an quiet around the house…the kids are in school~ YAY!
  • time to “clean up”; make lists, organize and prioritize
  • time TO ATTACK IT!

My Monday is off to a great start~  I woke up on time despite an “alarm malfunction”; got the kids off to school; remembered to get the lunchroom a check for “lunch money”; I’ve taken my morning supplements (allergy pill + NOEXPLODE+ Garlic), and currently am eating breakfast (protein shake and banana +coffee); doing some laundry;  and I’ve even already checked my e-mail…. a GREAT START!! and I expect that trend to continue!  I am so ready “TO MONDAY” today!!

What about you are you ready “TO Monday”?

40 days to FIT!! Day 17~ wanna WAIST?

If you want a Waist, there is more than ABS to think about. I am naturally an “apple” body type…I hold any excess weight in my core…YUCK! Well after having 4 kids (including twins by c-section) I was very scared that I’d never have a waist again…BUT that FEAR and ANGER propelled me towards doing everything I could possibly think of to regain my WAIST. I wanted a WAIST!!!

DO you wanna waist?

having a waist means more than just working your core it means you need to build a symmetrical, HOUR GLASS figure.  Think of the way an hour glass looks~ wider on top, thin in the middle and wider on  the bottom, right?  Well in order for us ladies to have a waist we need to be sure that we address the “wider on top” portion of the equation.  That means doing upper body exercises for our chest and our backs and shoulders.

A great exercise for building up your back and shoulders is the DB LAT ROW…Here’s a demo~

My workout today was for my back and shoulders (with a bit of biceps thrown in):

Pull ups
10 (over hand), 8 underhand

wide cable lat pulls
60#’sx5 together and 5 on each armx3 sets

Lat pull machine

Seated rows- one arm at at time
70#x10x3 sets

shoulder press machine

Arnold’s- one arm at a time

each set above paired with
DB bicep curls and knee ups on bench

Bicep curl machine
50x10x3 (plus some short burn out ones)

Cable pose down bicep curls

Abs- roman chair, ab roller crunches and side crunches, leg raises

Elliptical 3 mins; bike 9 mins; pool time with kids.

Please comment for your accountability~ stay focused…24 days (including today) left to get FIT!!!

Eat your Spinach!!

Believe! Bannister Style

Over and over again I am amazed at how our belief turns into reality.
Believe you can be BUFF! It is physically possible, so get your
Belief strong and you will break your psychological barriers.

Just Believe!

Read this about Roger Bannister:

“In 1954, Roger Bannister broke the world record and ran the mile in
under 4 minutes. In the whole of the history of the human species,
no-one had been able to do that. It had been considered impossible –
beyond the physical limits of the human body. Year after year, runners
had come closer and closer but no-one was able to break the 4-minute
Not only did Bannister practice and train, he constantly rehearsed
the event in his mind until he truly believed that he could do it.
Even though nobody before had been able.
Yet, within six weeks of Bannister breaking this psychological
barrier, it was broken again, and within a few years the mile had been
run in under 4 mnutes hundreds of times!
Belief holds us back more than anything else – far more than fear;
more, even, than physical constraints.”
