SSS 2nd Place! Brenda of NC

“SuperSTAR Success” 2nd Place winner!! Brenda of NC

Brenda!! congrats on showing us how 50 is the new 30.  Your SMILE beaming in your after photos makes me unafraid of my next decade in life!! It’s so awesome to see how you took the challenge on and got such amazing results.  Congrats on your 2nd place finish.  I can’t wait to see you continue on with your fitness success!!

Name:  Brenda  of North Calrolina

Number of children and ages:   I have 3 children.  Two of my children are biological and one of them is adopted.  (I only mention that because I can’t claim stretch marks for all 3 of them! J)  Their ages are 19, 16, and 10 years—two sons and a daughter!)

Age:  51 & ¾ years young!  (Actually, I think that makes me more than half a century old!)

Why did you enter the “SuperSTAR Success” contest by BuffMother?  I entered the SuperSTAR Success contest because I wanted to get healthier (both physically and emotionally) and hopefully look better in the process.  I wanted to prove (at least to myself) that age is just a number.  If I was in shape “way back when,” I was hoping I could get in even better shape in my 50’s!  I needed an incentive to stick to my work out goals.

What tactics did you use to stay focused and engaged for the entire 70 days?  I checked out the Buff Mother website every day, watched the videos, and read suggestions from Michelle.  I kept a journal of my daily food intake (for the entire 10 weeks), and I made myself work out even when I did not really feel like it.

How do you feel about your success?  I am very excited about my progress!  I feel like I got a good jump start on getting back in shape, but I still have some goals to reach.  I know if I stay focused, consistent, and continue to gain information about the body (and hormonal timing) those future goals will be within my grasp.
What obstacles did you have to overcome in order to attain your goals? I have a back and hip issue that can bother me on occasion, so I continually have to figure out how to work around/through that.  There is that moment of decision where you need to determine if it is more appropriate to “work it” or “rest it.”  I also struggle at times with what might be early peri-menopausal changes.  I would love to learn more about the exercise connection in that area!  In both of these cases, though, I am convinced that exercise and fitness can only be an asset!

What would you like to tell the world about BuffMother ?  Michelle, aka BuffMother, is so motivating!  If Michelle, with her 4 children, is able to achieve her fitness goals, then the rest of us can do it too!  I loved the way she demonstrated the exercises in the videos, and I loved the way she showed us how we can work out at home.  I prefer to go to the gym, because I feel like the limited distractions enable me to get a better work out.  However, after seeing Michelle model the exercises at home, I was inspired to do the same.  If I had a schedule change one day, I thought about Michelle’s demo, and I gave it my best shot at home.  Through Michelle’s coaching, I was inspired to try new exercises, perform exercises I have not done in years, listen to my body, and lift heavier weights.  I loved the “cooking” video (my kind of micro-veggies!)  And, the asparagus in the teeth made me smile!  I would highly recommend Buff Mother to anyone who wants the inspiration and information to get in shape!  Thanks, Michelle, for sharing your knowledge and gift of inspiration with all of us!
Can I have your permission to post your entry and photos online?  Yes—(first name only please).

Joy is in Confidence~ Shine in 49: Day 30

Is is possible to be happy if you are continually questioning your value? CONFIDENCE in who you are id key to having JOY! I know who I am! I am a daughter of my Lord God and joint heir with JESUS!

“The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.” (Romans 8:16-17)

If that’s not enough information to give me confidence and JOY I don’t know what is?

Know who you are!
You are born for greatness, born to do amazing powerful wonderful thing in order to show the world LOVE!
That’s my goal and that’s my JOY!

Today’s BuffMother “FIT tip”-POSTURE!!! Look slimmer, feel taller, convey confidence
with good posture. Practice walking with
head parallel to the ceiling, chest lifted, shoulder back, abs in, and
…SMILE! PLUS don’t forget to keep perfect
posture when you are working out- no slouching on the treadmill, elliptical or
when lifting allowed!!

Posture shows confidence and is so inviting and attractive! Let your JOY shine through your posture!

I plan to work a bunch on my posture this week…and some posing. I’m prepping for an upcoming photo-shoot. I will be working a promo on July 10th in Springfield MO. My “A game” is needed! Not sure when I’ll do the photo-shoot…but soon! Each year I try to do one close to my birthday. It’s a good way to celebrate each additional year of buffness!!

ON tap for me today is:

  • Training programs for Clients
  • Planning Summer VACATION time for kids and I 🙂
  • Have a KICK A$$ workout at 3pm- Full body HEAVY!!
  • DIET hard!- – I am planning on being perfect with it- time to lean up this body! I wanna be shredded for JUNE 14th!

Something really amazing I want to share is that I ran a several HARD sprints on Saturday after a 10 min run. BTW- these sprints are only 100m long- hydrant to hydrant on the street in front of my house. the AMAZING part is how insanely sore I got in my core- my ABS and inner-costial muscles/tissues are SORE!

Amazing how I didn’t even know those muscles existed until yesterday, lol! SPRINTS work!!! But a word of caution: EASE Into doing them!! Start with just a couple and work up from there!

Let’s “work it” this week!! Stand tall and confident in your identity!! You are INCREDIBLE!!

Fun with my Man!

First off, I must congratulate BRENDA!!  She had a spectacular showing at the Max Classic in Nebraska this weekend!! CONGRATS on all the first place trophies!! Brenda You rocked the stage with your best body ever!! Congrats!!!  Friends

The past 4-5 days has been all about having fun with my MAN…since my kids are in MN~ all my attention has been going to my man. What a lucky dog!! Anyhow here’s a quick recap:

W: ran outside, Out to eat- On the Boarder!! YUMMY CHIPS!
Th: I worked out with a friend (upper body) then that night DH and I tried to play tennis- no courts, so we opted to go for an hour long walk instead
F: Workout: Lifted chest and Tennis- then ate out at Ruth’s and Chris- YUMMY STEAK!!

Sa: Workout Back, sh, Biceps and TENNIS!!  Then ate out again…this time wings at Beef O’Brady’s~ Yummy!
Sunday: Canoe trip in the 105 degree temps and wind- massive workout, low water made us have to paddle a ton!  It was fun, but seriously exhausting in the heat!! Thank God I wore a lot of sunscreen…Travis skimmped on it and got BURNT! Poor guy!

Today I feel like I need a break from the action!  I may take the day off from the gym and just get in a good run after it cools off??  I could seriously take a nap right now! Sleeping  BUT…I am pressing through… Time to get some massive work done! Maybe all I need is a BIG GLASS of H2O!  Water does a body good!!

Cheers!!

Rollercoaster Week

My Birthday week was tough on me…I did have a GREAT Birthday Day an loved it, but at the same time I struggled.  The thing is I don’t want to get old, but I know I have to.  I want to be accepting of my age- I want to age gracefully, YET….I fight it!  I know that 36 is not exactly old, but it sounds and feels a whole lot older than 35.  Oh well…nothing I can do about getting older- it’s just part of life!

Monday- Down day…I was in a funk!  Had a super lazy bug…did some “gardening/weeding” as therapy.  I had NO WORKOUT and I didn’t get any of my “work” done that I had planed on doing, except that I did have a great coaching call with Brenda- she’s gonna rock the stage in a month in Norfolk!!  That night we went shopping- had to get one piece suits for my girls’ for fun/field day at their school…we found some nice ones at Dillards.  We also hit Target, where I bought a few shirts and a pair of shorts.  Including my b-day outfit:

Tuesday **My Birthday**- UP day…a great run with hill sprints- total of 36 mins (incuding some walking recovery) in honor of my 36th b-day I was “HIGH” after this and finished with 3 sets of abs.  My body was feeling great and I weighed in at 124!! I felt Sizzlin’!!  After school I took the kids out for dinner at Johnny Carinos, I had a yummy pecan crusted spinach salad. Then, that night my girls had to sing at the local minor league baseball game, The Arkansas Naturals.  The whole deal is kinda a school fundraiser (scam)…we had to pay to get the kids into the game so they could sing, lol.. It cost us $40 to get in and half of that money went to our school.  The funny thing about it is that was for 5 tickets and my DD won a prize for being a top seller. The prize was a behind the sceens tour of the facilities.  So we all got to go see the press box, the suites and the batting cages. After the game Travis was able to take me out for a little birthday celebration!! We were both TIRED but I’m so glad we got to spend some time OUT together. The day was also such a blessing because of the HUNDREDS of birthday wishes and blessings I received.  I felt so honored and happy to be rewarded with such love!! It’s so true that if you give love out, you get it back hundred fold!!  I am so thankful to have amazing friends who LOVE ME!!

Here’s a pic of the kids and I prior to our dinner:

Wednesday Down and UP day. It was down because my birthday was OVER …and I needed to get back to life/work, yet I couldn’t find my focus.  I’ve been having such a hard time focusing on my day to day work responsibilities.  Summer is here and the last thing I want to do is be behind the computer.  I have a few FUN business things in the works… it’s hard for me to be patient while waiting for them to formulate.  I guess I’m in a “transition” stage once again.  I love change and all it the excitement it brings, but at the same time I am so darn impatient that I struggle with the “transitional” period.  Anyhow…I didn’t workout on Wednesday, but I did train a client.  Which was the start of my UPWARD swing to the day.  The afternoon brought great work news for Travis’! God has really blessed his work!  As a celebration …I took him out for an AWESOME Steak at Bonefish…we had a good time!  I am so blessed to have such an amazing MAN!

Thursday– Down day- “tired Thursday”…need I say more, lol!  all the GO, GO, GO of the week caught up with me.  My energy was down and despite many good things happening.  I was down due to some disappointments during the day. Once again my lack of PATIENCE is what hindered my day from being GOOD.  I think I need to PRAY for patience!

Today to FOREVER!! UP day!!  I am UP and determined to be UP today!! We are fired up and determined to be patient and excited for the good and bad things life, change, business and transitional stages bring with it. With God’s help I am determined to stay UP (JOYFUL) through all of life’s circumstances.

My plan is to make every day an UP DAY!!

Let’s do it!!

Love ya,

Michelle

And the Scale goes DOWN>>>>

Down to 124.8 this morning!! That’s 5 pounds since Sunday, YAY!!  I’ve been taking a capsule of Mangodrin daily since Monday and I know it’s helped me with the little extra “boost” I needed to get my eating and workouts back on track.

I ran early again today:
3.5 miles total intervals during the first 15 mins…then during
one stretch I competed with myself on and “out and back”…the out was from the time of 12:30 to 18:30…so 6 mins.  The back was from the time of 18:30 to 23:15 so 4 mins and 45 seconds…and it was on a slight uphill grade.

The time at the 3 mile marker was 23:30…so that’s a 30 second improvement from the last time I ran the same route about 2 weeks ago. My overall time was 27:30 for the 3.5 miles (which included 1:30 sec of a walk) after my hard out/back segment 🙂

I had an amazing conversation with Sherry after my run. She’s so full of insight and delightful energy. I could talk for her for 5 days straight!!  We are getting her ready to hit the stage for a contest at the end of October.  We talked a ton about it, but also so many other topics: track, kids, husbands, sales, education, missions, fundraising, California, Kenisha’s contest journey, Brenda’s contest, infomercials, ski trips, trips to Nebraska/Council Bluffs, trips to Arkansas, trips to the beach, etc….  Thanks for the great call Sherry!!

Later today, I have a meeting about amping up my local business efforts, but first I must go pick my 3 sweet little ladies up from school- they have 1 week left.

Have a wonderful FRIENDLY FRIDAY!!

-Michelle

Height – 5’4″
Age- “39” and holding!!! 🙂
*Beginning weight – for Buffmother – 15 weeks ago – 141 lbs
*Beginning weight for SSS Contest – 10 weeks ago – 136 lbs
*Ending weight for SSS Contest – 118.5!!!!! (today 118!)

*Total loss = 23 lbs

*TOTAL inches lost = 36.25 inches!!!!!!! (gained ONE on calves)
*Body Fat % – 28.9% – 20% and NOW 16.3% at the END of SSS Contest!!!!!!!!

*Total Body Fat loss in 10 weeks = 12.6%

*Was wearing size 8-10 in clothing (pants, jeans…now can fit into size 4’s, 3’s and 2’s!!!!!) I love this change!!!!!

*Where are you in your journey?

I am very pleased with where I am at now. I want to MAINTAIN where I am at and continue to build muscle too. I plan to work on sculpting my abs, quads, glutes and hamstrings more now since I’ve lost the weight. I am just so happy to have lost so much body fat SO QUICKLY and become more lean. It is only 41 days until I turn 40 and I want to be in the best shape ever – fit and 40!!!

*Did you reach your goals and aspirations?

Yes I did! At first my goal was 125 pounds, and then 120 – which I reached in the last few days of the contest! It is very empowering to be in control and to know you reached your goals. Buffmother and hormonal timing has made such a difference in my life! I will continue to set new goals and always be focused! This will help me so much through my last year of graduate school.

*Where do you see this challenge brought you?

I had PERFECT timing for this challenge….I had just joined Buffmother five weeks before the contest started, so I had enough time to begin to understand the program and had lost five pounds before the contest began. It helped me learn how to have a clean diet and effective workouts. I kept my focus because I am motivated by turning 40 soon and the contest was big motivation too!

*Do you have any lingering concerns?

My main concerns right now are maintaining the level where I’m at, continuing to improve and staying healthy. I feel very fortunate not to have any ailments or body parts that cause pain or bother me! I know I’m in for a busy year with my final year of graduate school, teaching full-time and being a mom! But with the confidence I have gained with the Buffmother program, I know I can do it!

*Do you feel you made an impact on your legacy during this contest?

Definitely! I have showed my family, and especially my daughter – that you can do whatever you set your mind to and you CAN transform your body through making healthy food choices and working out. I’ve always tried to help my kids eat healthier and now since I am leading the example, it is working better. I’ve actually gotten more interested in cooking now too! I want to show them how great it feels to be fit and healthy for life!

*What is your REASON for doing this, your WHY?

I wanted to make the commitment to myself for better health and longevity. I am a happier and more complete person when I look better and feel better! I want to instill these values in my children and be an inspiration to my nursing students that I teach and patients that I care for. My parents both died from cancer and my brother had two types of cancer, so I hope that by choosing a healthy lifestyle I can decrease my chances and be around for my children a lot longer!!!! The 40th birthday coming up was HUGE motivation too!

*Did you feel the support group helped you stay on track?

YES! I loved our group, the Buff and the Beautiful! I am SO PROUD of how everyone did in this contest and really enjoyed getting to know them better! I was a co-leader with Dayle and tried to keep everyone motivated by checking their blogs and posting replies. We had a conference call that was good – even though we all were not able to get on! Dayle was awesome as a co-leader – I learned a ton from her experience in the Rally Room and she is SO motivating!

*What tactics did you use to stay focused and engaged for the entire 70 days?

I just jumped in and tried to get really involved in the Rally Room and looked at everyone’s before and after pics from previous contests, and learned as much as I could about HT, eating clean, and a variety of workouts. I loved reading everyone’s blogs and become super motivated by reading them. I felt like I had a whole team of awesome women behind me cheering me on – you know those BUFFMOTHERS!!! 🙂 Lisa was the best resource ever too! I read Michelle’s incredible HT Book and After Baby Abs, and RE-read them – they was like my “Bible” that I lived by this summer! I spent a ton of time reading magazines like Oxygen and M&F Hers as well as Tosca Reno’s Eat Clean Diet Book and the Butt Book. I loved those too! Reading about fitness and nutrition inspires me A LOT and keeps me very focused.

*Did you reward yourself when you hit certain goals along the way?

I did recently by buying myself some new, smaller clothes that actually fit better! My absolute favorites are my Lucky jeans and capris – size 4!!!!! (also splurged on some new PINK Asics running shoes since I’ve been running so much!)

*What other thoughts are in your head at the moment?

I just am SO thrilled with my results and couldn’t be happier right now!!! I haven’t been in this good of shape since I was maybe 20 – okay – that’s almost 20 years ago now! WOW – I’m going to be 40 in about 40 days and feel in the best shape I have been since I was a teen! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!

*Did you GET to know your body? Did you learn about your good c-days, your bad c-days, your weight fluctuations, etc…

Oh yes and I loved figuring it out! It is truly amazing how HT works. It totally makes sense. I was surprised to see my cycles get so much shorter, menses last a shorter amount of time, and less cramping! Learned to not worry about the bloating weight gain, and know that if I want to take off a couple pounds, I can do it! I’m a nurse and studying to be a nurse practitioner in women’s health more specifically, so this really intrigued me and is something I hope to help patients with someday. SO many women come in and want to lose weight! It is a common problem I will likely be dealing with a lot.

*Did anything surprise you?

Yes – that I actually could do it! And love it! I did it the RIGHT way too! NO starving myself or just eating salads all the time. I ate a ton this summer – every 3 hours – just more nutrient dense and clean eating foods that my body needs. It was not really that hard to stay away from the bad foods because I had a goal and was feeling SO good! I quit drinking Diet Dr. Pepper and drink a ton of water now – which I love! I used to drink several pops a day and even first thing in the am! I am also surprised at how much I absolutely love the Rally Room and what a great support that has been. The friendships made there are just very special and we all have something in common – the quest for fitness and healthy living. It’s enriched my life a ton by knowing all these incredible women, their trials and tribulations!

*Did anyone else’s impact you along the way?

Definitely!
Michelle – aka Buffmother – Need I say more? She is ONE superstar and is always so upbeat and full of fire! She is so smart to have figured this HT all out too! 🙂

Lisa – She is amazing! I so respect her for all she has done transforming her body and competing in figure! She introduced me to this, afterall. And she is just the fun, awesome same Lisa that was in my wedding and my college buddy!

Annie – She joined shortly after me and we figured out things together. We texted each other and talked a lot too! I learned a lot about clean eating and changing my diet as well as getting a lot of motivation from my friend of 14 years! Love all the NEBRASKA TEAM BUFFMOTHER girls!!! Looking forward to meeting more of them soon!

Dayle – She was the best co-leader I could have EVER have had on the Buff and Beautiful team. She was so energetic and positive all the time even having such a devastating loss in her family. She just amazes me!

Kermane, Linda, Leslie – Always blogging everyday and so good about sharing great information as well as cute and motivating comments!

Carrie Peck, Trish & Julie in CA – AWESOME! These girls are the BOMB to me! SO fun and positive all the time. They are inspire me! I love reading the competition stuff too.

Deanna, both Kims, Monica, Colleen (fitnblond5), Jessie, Karen in NJ – and other members of the Buff and Beautiful team – we ROCKED!!!! SO MANY others that I hope to get to know better soon as we continue on our fitness journey!!!! GOOD JOB BUFFMOTHERS! WE ARE ALL SUPERSTARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HERE IS MY BEFORE – 136lbs…Many more pics in my gallery and I did a photoshoot in a studio and will get those pics hopefully soon!!!!

Brenda of NE – I am very pleased with where I am at now, but I continue to have goals. I want to maintain, continue to build muscle, and increase my level of fitness. I am sooo proud to be 40 and in the best shape of my life!!

ON tap for me today is:

  • Training programs for Brenda and Theresa as they head into the last couple weeks prior to their contest – July 10th in Norfolk NE

  • Have a KICK A$$ workout at 4pm- LEGS!!
  • DIET hard!- day 1- It’s been ages since I’ve been STRICT in on my diet.  I am planning on being perfect with it- time to lean up this body! I wanna be shredded!

Something really amazing I want to share is that I ran a couple- yes just 2 sprints on Saturday after a 10 min run.  The first sprint was SLOW and I felt like I was going to break!  The second one felt much better and I was slightly fast :)- BTW- these sprints are only 100m long- hydrant to hydrant on the street in front of my house.  the AMAZING part is how insanely sore I got in my core- my ABS and inter-costial muscles/tissues are SORE!  Amazing how I didn’t even know those muscles existed until yesterday, lol!  SPRINTS work!!!  But a word of cautioin: EASE Into doing them!!  Start with just a couple and work up from there!

Slept in!!

I am DYING Laughing about how many SORE BOOTY posts have been here in the RR this week!!! Isn’t it fun to have a sore butt!? Laughing Today my DH let me sleep in until 10am!!  I needed it soooo bad as my cold was still “hanging” on quite strong yesterday.  I feel much better today and I’m ready to attempt going for a run outside here in just about 30mins.

My plan is to finish writing part 2 of my re-cap of the Omaha trip today, but I also need to catch up with some video coaching stuff and have 3 parent teacher conferences this afternoon.  I had my son’s yesterday and felt like I was the one who was the one who the conference was about and that I was in BIG trouble, lol!  The teacher expects me to “check” my son’s math homework each night it’s assigned (twice a week)…which means I have to do the entire lesson myself and figure out the way they want the answers written on my own. It takes at least 30mins each time to do it and I just don’t have that much time in the evenings.  NOR do I want to do math homework…I am over and done with being in 4th grade!   Crazy how much teachers expect parents to be involved with homework and such.  When I was a kid I did my own homework with little to none parental involvement.  NOW I have 4 kids who all need constant involvement from me with homework. The teachers expect it way too much and can’t possibly understand how BUSY it is with 4 kids in elementary school…3 of which are still trying to learn how to read! I’ll get off my soapbox now….Sorry for ranting~ The good news is that I have very smart kids and my son has all A’s except for and 89% in MATH, GO GUNNER!

Last night I had a good time at the gym, I showed off pictures of both Deb and Brenda…then got in a good HEAVY Back workout!  I went ahead and started BOOSTING.  FUN to lift heavy!!  I had planned on doing intervals on the stairmill, but my cough kept me from doing that.  I’ll get those in tomorrow instead.

Then it was time to go get Gunner from Football….He got moved from Linebacker to Offensive Full Back. Their STAR player/QB broke his collar bone in their game on Tues, so there was a big shake up on the team!  They play a game tommorrow night, so we’lll see how the new offense goes.

Well I am off to get a run done and some LUNGES!! YAY Booty!!
