Be thankful to lose 50 pounds

On the top of my mind today are many things.  One of which is WHY some clients really succeed vs. all the others who get mediocre results.  The biggest difference is their THANKFULNESS!! The ones who look for, push into acknowledge and are THANKFUL for every little change that they see or feel, they are the ones who get more changes and BIGGER results.

The clients who complain, find excuses and don’t celebrate the small successes….those clients don’t get the results they desire.

Gratefulness, Thankfulness, Positive outlooks lead to RESULTS!  Focusing on what you can do, Focusing on those who encourage you, Focusing on the small wins, Focusing on never quitting, Focusing on the blessings that you have, etc… One of my current clients Denise of California, she has had amazing success and has lost over 50 pounds in the past 5 months! I attribute much of her success from her thankfulness. She was thankful from day 1, constantly positive, being grateful for the opportunity that was ahead of her and every day since she’s pushed into being thankful. She’s endured many HARD days along the way.  She’s been lonely, upset at the scale, she’s worked through weight loss plateaus but SHE’s Remained Thankful!! That’s the key to her success!

Be thankful for all the little things like:

  • Today I woke up without that sludge feeling
  • Today I don’t have any allergies
  • My headaches have gone away
  • I can see some shape in my arms
  • I can wear a fun workout outfit now
  • I have enough stamina to do a full 30 mins of cardio now
  • I can lift 10 pounds more than I did a month ago
  • My daughter said I look slimmer
  • I am happier and less stressed

This concept of Gratitude and Thankfulness spills over into every area of life.  If you are thankful, God wants to give you more! It only makes sense! When my kids say thanks and act truly grateful for the meals I cook , it makes me want to do it more often.  If they don’t say thanks, or complain that it’s not their favorite, it makes me regret doing it and makes me limit my cooking.

You are in charge of your attitude about things. Get GRATEFUL, Be THANKFUL!!  Always push into what you have and what you can do and what little things you toward the goal. Look for the tiny signs you are heading in the direction you desire and BE blatantly overly thankful and GRATEFUL for them!!  Journal about them, Give praise about them, Boast about them, Get excited because you are on the cusp of your goal.  God will keep giving you more and more if you are truly thankful!!

Sept 18th, 2017

Today, I decided that it’s been far too long since I seriously blogged/journaled.  I used to every day (see the ARCHIVES) and I became quite a good writer and typist because of it. Now I can’t seem to even type 2 words without errors…sheesh. If you don’t use it you lose it. I am thankful that I can regain that ability, and already after typing this I feel progress!!

SSS2012 Finalist- Theresa T of NC

Theresa may not have any children, but she is certainly a “BuffMother”!!  I am so inspired by Theresa’s determination to use EXERCISE as her medicine.  Through her transformation she has a new sense of happiness and a new found belief that it’s not over for us at the age of 48….it’s now where NEAR over!! Keep up the excitement you’ve found for the future Theresa, I expect you to be fit forever!!

Name: Theresa T of  NC
Number of children and ages (it’s okay if you have 0):  0
Age:  48

Why did you enter the “SuperSTAR Success” contest by BuffMother?

I began this contest depressed and hopeless.  My clothes no longer fit; I was at my heaviest weight ever and was told I was in danger of high blood pressure and a heart attack if I didn’t lose body fat.  I was experiencing premenopausal symptoms and really felt as if it was over for me; I’m a “has-been” is what kept going through my thoughts.  I felt as if my hormones had knocked me down and were kicking me around.

When I got Michelle’s email announcing the contest, I thought to myself, I don’t have the energy to even get out of bed in the morning, I’ll never be able to keep up with an exercise/meal plan for 10 weeks… but something inside me kept saying, yes, this is exactly what I need to get back on track.

What tactics did you use to stay focused and engaged for the entire 70 days?

I developed a plan to eat clean, take my supplements, and get my daily exercise.   I realize now how vitally important all three are to my wellbeing.

How do you feel about your success?

Honestly, I don’t see much difference in my physical appearance but I can without a doubt say my mental outlook is a complete 180 turn around.  I really believe I am a “BuffMother” even while going through menopause.  I haven’t reached my goal weight but give me another 6 weeks and I truly believe I will be where I want to be.

My entire outlook on life is different because of this contest.  Before, I was thinking about retirement and looking at life as though it was passed; but now, I’m going back to school in January, setting new goals for my future and feel like I’m 20-something again with my entire life ahead of me.  I’m very excited about what the future holds for me and feel like I can accomplish any challenge life throws at me. As the saying goes, “BRING IT”!!!

The most important lesson I learned from this contest is how vitally important supplements are at this stage of my life.  Without them, I felt out-of-control but with them, I can conquer the world.

What obstacles did you have to overcome in order to attain your goals?

Half way through the contest, I had surgery and then went on a two week vacation; both of which sidetracked my motivation.

I managed to maintain my weight while away and when I returned from vacation, I was even more determined to get back on track, and thanks, to Michelle and all my fellow buffmothers’ motivational posts and emails; it was no trouble at all.  I used the FaceBook “TEAM BUFFMOTHER” group to lift my spirits.
What would you like to tell the world about BuffMother ?

I know Michelle’s mission is to help women after pregnancy but I think she should expand to include “after menopause”.  Our well-being doesn’t have to end when we reach midlife; our hormones might say otherwise but we are all over comers and with the BUFFMOTHER support groups, we can be victorious for the rest of our lives.

Can I have your permission to post your entry and photos online? yes

Michelle, thanks again for all that you do.  You are an amazing woman and have made a huge impact on my life.  You are truly a lifesaver.

#3-FinishingThoughts:
Where are you in your journey?  I’ve made major progress over the last 10 weeks.  I lost the remainder of my baby weight and then some and I’m feeling stronger, more confident and happy to be back in my pre-pregger clothes.  My daily habits have adapted considerably and take less thought…like my water intake, protein and green focused meals, etc.

Did you reach your goals and aspirations?  Yes, my goal was to be more fit at 32 and after two babies than before.  I’m  feeling leaner than before and have been bit by the lifting bug.  I hadn’t focused on strength training since college so it’s amazing to be back at it.

Where do you see this challenge brought you?  It brought back some of my focus to me when I was accustomed to caring for everyone else first.  Now, at least I’m on the daily agenda!

Do you have any lingering concerns?  No, just hoping to recommit and focus on my next goals.

Do you feel you made an impact on your legacy during this contest?  Yes!  I’ve got my mojo back!

your WHY?  I want to show my daughter, now 7 months old, how to be a strong and confident woman and lead my family by example. I tell myself all the time…be the example and also challenge= change! J

Did you feel the support group helped you stay on track?  Yes, I enjoy the rally room but read more than blogging myself.  I’ve fallen off over the last several weeks but look forward to staying connected.  Knowing there is a network of women out there striving toward similar goals is motivating and  inspiring.  Plus, whenever I have posted, I got great feedback and positive boosts from the ladies.

What tactics did you use to stay focused and engaged for the entire 70 days?  I set my POA every Sunday and making those intentions a conscious decision helped me.  Also, making sure I kept the house stocked with my good eats was crucial.

Did you reward yourself when you hit certain goals along the way?  Yep, I finally got my hair cut since having the babe!

What other thoughts are in your head at the moment?  I loved the weekly challenges and will miss those or have to set them for myself again!  My favorite weeks were the 100 lunges a day, 10 vacuums per day and the three greens a day.

#4- Comment about your HORMONES
Did you GET to know your body? Yes and no.  I still don’t have a cycle due to nursing  and have been tracking how I feel but I think it will take a few more months for me to figure out my c-days.

Did you learn about your good c-days, your bad c-days, your weight fluctuations, etc?… Sort of.. I had much more awareness of my body and  how I was feeling.  It was the first time I was really evaluating how I felt daily and considered the impact that hormones could be playing.  Before this challenge, I never even considered hormones as a factor.  OF course with two small kids, I always assumed my physical and mental state was a reflection on how much sleep we were getting.  Now, I’m aware of our sleep but also hormones, water, nutrition, etc.
Did anything surprise you?  Yes, I was really concerned about nursing and keeping up my production while upping my workouts and changing my diet with significantly more greens.  I worried that it could make our baby, Joy, gassy or something if my milk changed.  Thankfully, It hasn’t had any negative impact on that front. Yay!

#5- Favorite Journal/Blog Posts
take a peek back at your blogs– what were some of your favorite entries from the 10 weeks?  Probably just my enthusiasm and eagerness at the beginning of the 10 weeks.

Did anyone else’s impact you along the way?  Yes, definitely.  I love that the RR is filled with women of all ages and stages of fitness.   Whether someone was prepping for a competition or just trying to lose some lbs, the group is very inviting and supportive.  They continue to inspire me to get better!

SSS2012 Finalist – Kathleen H. of CA

Kathleen!! I am so proud of you~ Your new “Happy Hour” is truly transforming you–in mind, body, and spirit!! It’s so cool that one of our origianl TEAM BuffMother members, Jennifer of Austria, helped encourage you along in your journey!!  I love how your tummy shrunk over the 70 days and how you are pressing forward to the goal of washboard abs by age 50. I have a feeling you may have them by 49!! Keep rockin’ it!!

Name:  Kathleen H of CA
Number of children:  18 year old daughter
Age:  48

Why did you enter the “SuperSTAR Success” contest by BuffMother?  I joined the BuffMother team SuperSTAR Success contest because I needed the motivation to tone up and shed fat.  Taking my “before” photo was a mind opening experience.  I had no idea I had let myself get so overweight and out of shape until I saw that photo and I was immediately motivated!

What tactics did you use to stay focused and engaged for the entire 70 days?  I have always eaten clean and I exercise regularly.  However, I just started a new job, in a new city surrounded by new people and I fell prey to their ways.  Instead of working out at the end of the day, I headed to “happy hour” with the gang.  It was the useless calories of alcohol that really did me in.  So guess what I did?  I created my own “happy hour”!  That is what I labeled my workouts and it really worked for me and kept me focused.  Just as I reasoned that I earned a happy hour cocktail in the past, I flipped that around in my brain and told myself I “earned” my happy hour workout.  And it made me MUCH happier to workout than to sit around and drink after work.  That is for sure!

I also had support from my best friend Jennifer Franklin, who is a Buffmother contest winner herself.  I emailed her every day (she lives in Austria, I live in the US) what I did for my workouts and how I was feeling.  On the days when I was down and feeling like I was not gaining anything from all the effort, she put me straight and got me back on track.   She likened the experience to removing paper towels from a roll of paper towels.  And that the first couple towels you peel off, dont show, the roll looks big but as you keep peeling off the towels the effect is greater and you can see the difference.  Believe it or not, that visual really helped me to keep pushing forward.

I also made a point of letting everyone at work know that I was in this contest so that they did not tempt me or invite me to join them for beer or offer me pizza or other fattening goodies they tend to have delivered into the office.

How do you feel about your success?   I am glad I stuck with the program all the way – even when I was traveling extensively.  I sought out the gym and did not head to the bar with the rest of the crew on my countless road trips.  And guess who was always happy and peppy the next day?  You guessed right – the “new happy hour girl”!!

I see this as the first step towards my fitness goals.  I still have a long way to go in my quest for washboard abs by my 50th birthday but this contest put me on the right path.  I am now looking forward to new goals to shoot for.  By making it to the end of this contest I have proven that I have the stamina and motivation to attain my ultimate goal of fitness.
What obstacles did you have to overcome in order to attain your goals?  I had to change my entire mindset towards how I relaxed and decompressed after a long day at work.  It used to be that I worked hard so I figured I could play hard.  Now, when I finish a long day of work, I know the best thing I can do for myself is to hit that gym and start my happy hour workout.  By the time I am finished, I have forgotten all about what happened at work and instead am focused on how strong I now am and how many reps, sets and lbs I have lifted.  Much better!!

What would you like to tell the world about BuffMother ?  BuffMother is an amazing community of women helping women.  Seeing pictures of you, Michelle, so fit and rock hard is a great motivator for me.  No longer can a woman blame her rolly polly belly on the fact she had children.  My goodness!  You had four and are fit beyond compare so there really is no excuse not to shine.

The way the team at BuffMother cheers one another on and supports each other is priceless.  Especially, if you are in a situation like I am wherein I  don’t have anyone around me that works out or cares about fitness.  It gave me a virtual group of friends I could hear from and read about and relate to.

Oh!  And the mini-challenges are fantastic!  What a great way to add a layer of fitness on top of the regular plan.  I have made a point of adding 100 reps of a certain exercise each week to my normal fitness routine.  It adds an element of fun to the schedule.

SSS 2012 Finalist – Jenny B of NE

I am so VERY proud of Jenny for “finding herself” again through BuffMother.  She over came her Mommy guilt and overcame her fear of the “meat heads” in the weight room.  I’m very impressed with how 7 pounds of weight loss transformed her!! Way to go Jenny~ I expect your fitness future to bring many more successes!!

Name: Jenny B of NE
Number of children: 1
Age:33

Why did you enter the “SuperSTAR Success” contest by BuffMother?  I wanted to challenge myself and learn more healthy ways to attain my fitness goals. I also wanted the extra guidance that I got from the Youtube videos, emails, journal, Rally Room and fellow BuffMothers.

What tactics did you use to stay focused and engaged for the entire 70 days?  I really utilized the Rally Room for support, I also used my husband because he also helped keep me accountable, watching the YouTube videos, journaling as well as continuing to reference “Hormonal Timing” book. All of these together helped me keep my focus.

How do you feel about your success?  I am very happy with my results and excited to see how I will look and feel months from now after continuing to live a healthy lifestyle.

What obstacles did you have to overcome in order to attain your goals?  Some of the obstacles I had to overcome were to fit working out into my already busy schedule, having “mommy guilt” after leaving my daughter to go to the gym to workout, eating healthy and prepping meals. It took me some time to figure out the meal prepping thing.  I also had to overcome the “haters” and being criticized for what I was trying to accomplish.  Another big one was using the weight room at the gym and not feeling intimidated by the equipment as well as the “meat heads”.

What would you like to tell the world about BuffMother ?  I was able to find myself again through BuffMother.  The knowledge I gained about eating, hormones, and workouts will stay with me for years.  I met some great friends through the Rally Room, which I found to be a very safe place for me to express my feelings and share my successes as well as struggles. I wish every woman wanting to learn and make changes could be a part of the BuffMother community.

SSS 2nd Place! Brenda of NC

“SuperSTAR Success” 2nd Place winner!! Brenda of NC

Brenda!! congrats on showing us how 50 is the new 30.  Your SMILE beaming in your after photos makes me unafraid of my next decade in life!! It’s so awesome to see how you took the challenge on and got such amazing results.  Congrats on your 2nd place finish.  I can’t wait to see you continue on with your fitness success!!

Name:  Brenda  of North Calrolina

Number of children and ages:   I have 3 children.  Two of my children are biological and one of them is adopted.  (I only mention that because I can’t claim stretch marks for all 3 of them! J)  Their ages are 19, 16, and 10 years—two sons and a daughter!)

Age:  51 & ¾ years young!  (Actually, I think that makes me more than half a century old!)

Why did you enter the “SuperSTAR Success” contest by BuffMother?  I entered the SuperSTAR Success contest because I wanted to get healthier (both physically and emotionally) and hopefully look better in the process.  I wanted to prove (at least to myself) that age is just a number.  If I was in shape “way back when,” I was hoping I could get in even better shape in my 50’s!  I needed an incentive to stick to my work out goals.

What tactics did you use to stay focused and engaged for the entire 70 days?  I checked out the Buff Mother website every day, watched the videos, and read suggestions from Michelle.  I kept a journal of my daily food intake (for the entire 10 weeks), and I made myself work out even when I did not really feel like it.

How do you feel about your success?  I am very excited about my progress!  I feel like I got a good jump start on getting back in shape, but I still have some goals to reach.  I know if I stay focused, consistent, and continue to gain information about the body (and hormonal timing) those future goals will be within my grasp.
What obstacles did you have to overcome in order to attain your goals? I have a back and hip issue that can bother me on occasion, so I continually have to figure out how to work around/through that.  There is that moment of decision where you need to determine if it is more appropriate to “work it” or “rest it.”  I also struggle at times with what might be early peri-menopausal changes.  I would love to learn more about the exercise connection in that area!  In both of these cases, though, I am convinced that exercise and fitness can only be an asset!

What would you like to tell the world about BuffMother ?  Michelle, aka BuffMother, is so motivating!  If Michelle, with her 4 children, is able to achieve her fitness goals, then the rest of us can do it too!  I loved the way she demonstrated the exercises in the videos, and I loved the way she showed us how we can work out at home.  I prefer to go to the gym, because I feel like the limited distractions enable me to get a better work out.  However, after seeing Michelle model the exercises at home, I was inspired to do the same.  If I had a schedule change one day, I thought about Michelle’s demo, and I gave it my best shot at home.  Through Michelle’s coaching, I was inspired to try new exercises, perform exercises I have not done in years, listen to my body, and lift heavier weights.  I loved the “cooking” video (my kind of micro-veggies!)  And, the asparagus in the teeth made me smile!  I would highly recommend Buff Mother to anyone who wants the inspiration and information to get in shape!  Thanks, Michelle, for sharing your knowledge and gift of inspiration with all of us!

How do you feel about your success?

AWESOME!! Took my head, heart and body to a place I only dreamt about! I’ve beaten my “monthly weight rollercoaster cycle” that I’ve been on for YEARS!! I feel more in control of my life now…mainly due to Hormone Timing!

What obstacles did you have to overcome in order to attain your goals?

DEFINITELY WEEKEND BINGING!! Took the first month to really teach myself! The second month I changed my attitude to “it’s just another day to be healthy”. No More 4 days good, 3 days bad…it’s all about 7 days good!!

What would you like to tell the world about BuffMother?

It is so MUCH MORE than just looking good…it’s a way of life! Understanding your hormones is really the key! When you understand them, you don’t have to fight them, you just work with them! AND this is NOT a new fade diet; it is a lifestyle change where you learn to make better choices!

Where are you in your journey?

I am very interested in getting certified to be a PT. And definitely would love to compete in a fitness challenge someday SOON!

Did you reach your goals and aspirations?

Yes, I wanted to take my body to another level of fitness!

Where do you see this challenge brought you?

Definitely took me into a new chapter in life. Freed me of self doubt, and listening to others tell me I can’t do it. I feel so alive and ready to make positive changes in all areas of my life!

Do you have any lingering concerns?

Only that I may have moments where I listen to the negative comments about my changes. But I know this is an awesome thing for me and my family!

Do you feel you made an impact on your legacy during this contest?

Yes my kids love having a “strong & healthy Mom”. They know that protein keeps them full, and “snack” foods are not really food!!

Did you feel the support group helped you stay on track?

Absolutely Yes…in countless ways!

Did you reward yourself when you hit certain goals along the way?

Bought myself some new jeans…because I was tired of pulling them up all day!! Woohoo!!

What other thoughts are in your head at the moment?

Energized!! Food use to control me…then control my moods. I am so empowered by making the right choices day to day!

Can I have your permission to post your entry and photos online?

Absolutely Yes!

Please Comment about your HORMONES~
Did you GET to know your body?

Definitely yes! My monthly cycle controlled my eating, moods, and choices more than I ever imaged the could… but they don’t know!

Did you learn about your good c-days, your bad c-days, your weight fluctuations, etc…Again Definitely yes! I use to think my “boosting days” were me being tired of being good, but it was just me being physically tired & hungrier. I love taking advantage of the buffing days, then sit back and maintain during boosting. I stopped fighting my cycle, I work with it now!

Did anything surprise you?

YES, I feel so much better staying away from dairy!!

Favorite Journal/Blog Posts
Take a peek back at your blogs– what were some of your favorite entries from the 10 weeks?

One of my favorites would have to be when my “neigh sayer” friend turned positive and gave me her son’s old lifting set!! Then of course my “Aha Moment” when I truly realized I was a weekend binger…but not anymore!!

Did anyone else’s impact you along the way?

Oh Yea! Denyse, Kim, Brenda & Jen! Denyse, Kim and I even set up “weekend accountable” challenges. We had to report back to each other on how we did Friday through Sunday, highs & lows. It was very educational to my progress! I feel very blessed to have had them with me during this BM journey!

Shine in 49 Runner Up – Dayle Stevens

Name:  Dayle Stevens of ID

Number of children and ages (it’s okay if you have 0):  2 girls (11 and 7)

Age:  38

What tactics did you use to stay focused and engaged for the entire 49 days?  I stayed active in the Rally Room and surrounded myself with others doing the same challenge.

How do you feel about your success?  I am extremely pleased!  I didn’t lose a million inches but I feel more solid!!!  My body feels more dense and my muscles feel like there is more content/structure.   My strength is increasing and my body is changing in shape!!!  I loved the photo prep, esp. the 2 gallon and salt manipulation…got to see how low I could go for an event.  J

What obstacles did you have to overcome in order to attain your goals?  Life!  This is the busiest time for me at work so I really had to commit to my gym time.  I was tired running all day long and really had to time my eats so focus was on food as fuel.

What would you like to tell the world about BuffMother ?  Do not give up!  It does not matter where you have been, what matters is where you are about to go and BuffMother.com can help you on your journey!

Can I have your permission to post your entry online?  YES!
